A Malaysian Airlines Flight Was Shot Down Over the Ukraine With a Surface-to-Air Missile, Killing All 298 People On Board

A Malaysia Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was SHOT DOWN by a surface-to-air MISSILE over the Ukraine yesterday.  Just a few months after Malaysia Airlines flight 370 disappeared over the Indian Ocean in March.

All 298 people on board were killed, including 15 crew members from Malaysia, and 283 passengers.

There were 154 passengers from the Netherlands, 28 Malaysians, 27 Australians, 12 Indonesians, nine from the UK, four Germans, four Belgians, three from the Philippines, and one Canadian.  The nationalities of the 41 other passengers still isn't known yet . . . so far it seems like no Americans were on the flight.

The plane was flying a route that USED to be common, but is now considered unsafe . . . there's a war between Ukraine and pro-Russian separatists in the eastern part of the country where the crash happened, 31 miles from the Russian border.

As for who shot down the plane, the top theory is that separatists shot it down because they thought it was a Ukrainian military transport.  Right after the crash, a separatist posted on Twitter that they'd taken a plane down . . . but later deleted it.  That was before they figured out it was a commercial airliner.  Then the Ukrainian government released intercepted phone calls between Russian intelligence officers where separatists took responsibility . . . but were surprised to find out it was a commercial airliner full of civilians, including women and children.

Russian President Vladimir Putin blames it on the UKRAINIANS . . . for waging military operations against the separatists.

But Russia has been supplying troops and weapons to the separatists . . . they're mad that protests forced out Ukraine's pro-Russian president earlier this year.  So the missile probably came from THEM.

It could also have been STOLEN when separatists stormed a Ukrainian military base.  Here are three more questions . . .

1.  Why was a commercial airliner flying over a war zone?  The route has been declared unsafe . . . but NOT at that height.

2.  How can a missile take out a Boeing 777 flying at 33,000 feet?  It wasn't a simple shoulder-fired antiaircraft missile, it was a complex, portable Soviet-era BUK missile SYSTEM.

The missiles fly at 2,684 miles per hour . . . three times the speed of sound.  The plane was only flying at 506 miles an hour.  So a missile like that can cover the 30 miles to the plane in 40 SECONDS.  No one would see or hear it coming.

3.  How do you investigate a plane crash in a war-torn region?  Malaysia is interested, but the Ukrainians don't even control the area where the crash site is . . . the separatists do.  And there have even been reports that people have looted bodies and wreckage.

That's because the plane broke apart in the air, so the wreckage is scattered over MILES.  But parts of it remained intact . . . CNN has video of when the fuel tanks hit the ground and exploded.

Separatists SAY they'll let investigators have access to the site, but that hasn't happened yet.

Finally, a young Dutch passenger posted an eerie photo of the plane on Facebook a few minutes before boarding, with a reference to that Malaysia flight that disappeared in March.  The caption said, quote, "If it should disappear, this is what it looks like."

MSNBC Accidentally Aired a Prank Caller During Their Malaysia Airlines Crash Coverage

It's bound to happen during breaking news, but it's also kind of a bummer . .  .

MSNBC accidentally aired a prank caller yesterday during their coverage of Malaysia Airlines flight 17, which was shot down by pro-Russian militants in the Ukraine, killing all 298 people on board.

Krystal Ball is the host of a show called 'The Cycle', and she thought she was talking to a witness, described as a military expert named Staff Sergeant Michael Boyd.

Instead, the guy said the plane was shot down by bad gas from a certain radio DJ.

The funny part is that Krystal kept on with her questioning, like she hadn't heard.  She asked the guy to use his military expertise and describe the missile.  At which point he insulted her and hung up.  And then she STILL wanted to hear from him.

(Yep, he referenced Stern.  Specifically, quote, "Well, I was looking out the window and I saw a projectile flying through the sky, and it would appear that the plane was shot down by a blast of wind from Howard Stern's ass.")

According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, just a generation ago, some 75 percent of teens had a summer job but now that number is down around 40 percent for 16-to-19-year-olds, the continuation of a decades-long trend.

The financial website NerdWallet says the reason behind the decline is due in part to the kind of jobs available for teens shrinking as older workers are taking fast food and retail store jobs amid the loss of low-skilled factory jobs.

A recent Drexel University study found that job experience in high school boosts future income by 20 percent to 25 percent a decade later.

Twin Sisters, 19, Arrested In North Carolina For Prostitution

North Carolina police today arrested 19-year-old twin sisters on prostitution charges after they allegedly advertised their services online.

Katelyn and Sarah Lothrop were nabbed early this morning by Raleigh Police Department officers.

The sisters were each charged with aiding and abetting prostitution. Sarah (seen above at right) was also charged with failing to appear in court in connection with a 2013 misdemeanor case. Sarah is locked up in lieu of $8000 bond, while Katelyn is being held on $4000 bond.

A third defendant, Michael Lewis, was also arrested and charged with aiding and abetting prostitution. Here are the pics of these two: [[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”wysiwyg”,”fid”:”252611″,”attributes”:{“alt”:””,”class”:”media-image”,”height”:”290″,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”width”:”465″}}]]

Trash hauler dumps trash in deadbeat customer’s driveway

What do you do if you’re a trash hauler with customers who don’t pay their bills?

In Red Wing, you give them some trash back.

A trash hauler dumped almost two tons of trash on a customer’s driveway in retaliation for an unpaid bill.

The city, apparently, had to clean it up, which will cost Paul’s Industrial Garage $735, in addition to the $1,800 fine.  “I opened my car door … and the smell was incredible,” Red Wing City Council member Peggy Rehder said during Monday’s city council meeting. “This was a very deliberate action that neighbors watched go on. They watched a phone call being made and then garbage being dumped … which threatens the health and safety of the neighborhood. I view this as very serious business.”

The trash had been sitting in a roll-off at the site for six weeks.

The company says it lost nearly $1,500 in business by having the roll-off tied up with a customer who wasn’t paying for it.
