Was This the Worst Summer Ever? Only 16% Say Yes

Labor Day was the unofficial end of summer.  (It officially ends September 22nd.)  So in general, how did this summer compare to an AVERAGE summer?

survey asked 1,500 Americans if this was their WORST summer ever . . . and only about one in six said yes.  That’s 16%.  14% said it was a “good” summer overall . . . 38% said “average” . . . and 30% said “bad.”

And it turns out some Americans have been having a blast the last few months.  2% said it was their BEST summer ever.  The survey also found the most popular thing to do over Labor Day weekend this year was . . . nothing, just stay home and relax.

Nike Is Selling Freddy Krueger Sneakers for Halloween

Nike has made its choice:  This Halloween season, MICHAEL JORDAN is out . . . and a horribly disfigured, child-murdering dream demon is in.

Meet the new Air Max 95s inspired by “Nightmare on Elm Street” villain FREDDY KRUEGER.  The design is based on Freddy’s striped sweater, although they used red and brown, but not any green.

Inside on the heels, there’s a bloody “Swoosh” logo, and there’s some very light blood splatter.  There’s also some gray on the toes, to represent Freddy’s razor glove.  The shoes will be out sometime in October.

Rapper Dr Dre is getting divorced and his soon to be ex Nicole Young is looking to get paid. She is asking for nearly $2 million per month in spousal support, as well as $5 million to help her pay her legal fees. Young’s lawyers want $1,936,399 in monthly support, and they say she is having trouble paying her bills since the couple’s marriage of 24 years collapsed. She also said the rapper kicked her out of their 43,000-square-foot Brentwood home on April 1 “in the middle of the night” and “in a drunken rage.” Young has been living in the couple’s Malibu beach home, and she says he threatened her not to “spend one more cent.” She also said Dre forced her to sign a prenup “under extreme duress” on their wedding day. The couple have three grown children together.

ELLEN DEGENERES  show will return for its 18th season on Monday, September 21st.  She added, quote, “I can’t wait to get back to work and back to our studio.  And, yes, we’re gonna talk about it.” That’s obviously a reference to the “toxic workplace” allegations that have been plaguing her all summer.  The show has parted ways with three producers, but other than that, no major changes have been announced. Meanwhile, the British tabloids have new dirt.  A former employee says Ellen “tormented” the staff who worked at her home.  She supposedly put out “traps” to make sure they were cleaning everything, and took pleasure in firing people.

37 year old Amy Schumer revealed in a new Instagram post that she was diagnosed with Lyme disease this summer, Entertainment Tonight reports. The 37-year-old comedian posted a pic of herself as a kid with a fishing pole, and a caption that reads, “My first ever fishing pole. Anyone get LYME this summer? I got it and I’m on doxycycline. I have maybe had it for years. Any advice? Can you have a glass of wine or 2 on it? I know to stay out of the sun. I’m also taking these herbs from cape cod called lyme-2. Please comment or text me on my number in my bio. I also want to say that I feel good and am excited to get rid of it.” The CDC reports that Lyme disease is passed to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks, and its symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a skin rash called erythema migrans.

2020 has been a bitch am I right?  But solid news here for things getting better. 2021 will be the year that “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” finally comes to an end. The last season will air early next year. E! currently has no other shows in the works with the family. The show’s audience faded in recent years, but it still ranked among the top 100 shows in the 2019-20 season.  Season 19 of Keeping Up With the Kardashians will begin on September 17.

Peacock is placing a two-season order for Bel-Air, the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot. The series is a reimagining of Will Smith’s ’90s sitcom, this time as a drama, based on Morgan Cooper’s viral video that racked up over five million views on YouTube. Here’s Will Smith bragging about it. (AUDIO) Remember there will be a  Fresh Prince reunion special, which brings back Smith and series regulars Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid, Alfonso Ribeiro, and DJ Jazzy Jeff. The reunion is set to film on September 10, and debut on Peacock some time near Thanksgiving.

For Wayback Wednesday, check out a promotional video Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd made to get independent theater chains to sell “Ghostbusters”.  It includes an UNUSED “Ghostbusters” theme song. (AUDIO)

Joel McHale was on “The Tonight Show” last night and was asked if the rumors of a “Community” movie were true.(AUDIO)

Jeopardy! GOAT Ken Jennings will be returning to show for its 37th season this month as a consulting producer on the show. He will ” develop projects and serve as a general ambassador for the show.”  Alex Trebek will also be back, even as he continues to battle pancreatic cancer. Due to coronavirus pandemic, the quiz show will film without a studio audience and with more space between Trebek and contestants. The new season kicks off on September 14.

ANNA FARIS is leaving the sitcom “Mom” after seven seasons, which leaves ALLISON JANNEY to carry the show on its upcoming eighth season.  It’s unclear why she’s leaving, since she was still in the middle of her contract. She just said, quote, “My journey as Christy has come to an end, allowing me to pursue new opportunities, [but] I’ll be watching next season and rooting for my TV family.” Her absence will be addressed on the show, which is slated to start production September 14th.  It was previously shut down in mid-March due to COVID-19.

Adam Sandler is 54 today.  So let’s celebrate him a bit. He got his start on MTV’s “Remote Control”, then went on to “Saturday Night Live”.   His movies have made over $2 billion at the box office ever since.  You know him from “Big Daddy”, “Grown Ups”, and “The Waterboy”.  We wish him a happy 54th birthday first with this montage of his funniest songs and movie lines. (AUDIO) Now some Adam Sandler Did you knows…

Sandler’s movies seem to always have a connection….One could be the names of the characters Sandler plays. They almost always have names that end in a Y sound – Billy, Happy, Robbie, Sonny, Nicky, Davey, Whitey, etc. And nearly all of the female love interests in his films have names that start with V – Veronica Vaughn, Virginia Venit, Vicki Vallencourt, Valerie Veran, etc. The reasoning behind these patterns is…unknown.

He And Judd Apatow Were Roommates

After graduating from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 1988, Sandler booked a guest appearance on The Cosby Show, followed by an appearance on MTV’s Remote Control. In 1989, Dennis Miller saw Sandler in Going Overboard and recruited him to Saturday Night Live.

In a 5 or 6 year span his pay went up big time.  For 1995’s Billy Madison, his first writing/starring venture, he was paid a respectable $1.7 million. For Bulletproof in 1996, $2.5 million. The Wedding Singer made him $5.5 million in 1998, and 1999’s Big Daddy salary was $8 million. For Little Nicky, his eighth starring role, released just five years after Madison, he earned $20 million.

You think about him you think comedies. But he has done some great work in dramas too. Punch Drunk Love got big thumbs up from Roger Ebert. Ebert though maybe he would stick with drama full time actually.

Sandler has been the top dog on Forbes’s list of the Most Overpaid Actors in Hollywood. TWICE. in 2013 and 2014.

Remember the email hack a Sony in 2014? That uncovered emails from employees saying they were tired of working on his films, calling them “mundane” and “formulaic” in emails. Supposedly that is why Sony let Sandler move on to Netflix.

The Motion Picture Academy is addressing that whole “Oscars So White” controversy. Starting in 2024, any movie nominated for Best Picture has to meet two of four new diversity standards.  Here they are:

Standard #1:  At least one of the lead actors or significant supporting actors must be from underrepresented racial or ethnic groups . . . OR at least 30% of all actors in secondary or minor roles . . .

OR a main storyline, theme, or narrative must be centered on an underrepresented group.

Standard #2:  Establishes a similar standard of diversity for creative leadership and crew roles.

Standard #3:  Requires that the film provide paid apprenticeship and internship opportunities to underrepresented groups, or training opportunities and skills development for underrepresented crew.

Standard #4:  Requires that a film’s marketing, publicity and distribution have multiple in-house senior executives from underrepresented groups.

Remember last month, when SACHA BARON COHEN was caught filming something in his Borat getup?  Well, it turns out he was filming “Borat 2”, and the movie is already FINISHED. There’s no word when it’s coming out, or where.  But here’s a description of the plot:  “The sequel finds Borat thinking he’s a big movie star after the success of the original 2006 film made him famous, so he’s trying to hide from the public by pretending to be someone else, and starts meeting/interviewing people incognito.” It’s also been described as, quote, “Cohen playing Borat playing Cohen.”

“Monday Night Football” will NOT be using HANK WILLIAMS JR.’s “All My Rowdy Friends Are Here on Monday Night” in their opening this year. The reason has to do with COVID-19.  They’re saying the song “will not resonate for games that will be contested in mostly empty stadiums.”  They also haven’t decided if it’ll ever come back. For this year, they’re going with a new version of Little Richard’s song “Rip It Up” that uses his voice mixed with instrumentals by a band named Butcher Brown.   This is the second time Hank Jr.’s song has been dropped from the show.  It got tossed back in 2011 when he compared President Obama to Hitler.  And then they made nice and brought it back in 2017

Gorillaz teased a new song with Robert Smith of The Cure called Strange Timez. (AUDIO) The full song will be released today.

Today’s BURTON BIRTHDAY OF THE DAY….He is a man that changed the fast food game as we know it.  While many different versions have come out, its reported that his secret blend of herbs and spices is still a mystery, even to its employees….but on his birthday…we say thank you Colonel Sanders.  He would have been 130 years old today.

Today’s birthday girl has been laid more than carpet in an apartment complex in 267 fine films including:

  • All Anal Hell Volume 2
  • Bitchcraft Volume 2

After losing Game 1 7-2, the Cardinals used a five run third inning to pick up the win in Game 2 of their double header against the Twins.  Final score of Game 2 as 6-4.  A wild at bat for Cards catcher Matt Wieters as he had a 19 pitch at bat – which unfortunately ended in a fly out.  But still, crazy to think the two went back and forth for 19 pitches.  The Cardinals are off today – and it’s their last off day of the season.  They will play everyday, and sometimes twice a day, for the next 3 weeks to close things out.

At this point, we’re close enough to MLB’s regular-season finish line to know that the 2020 season — the 60-game version — is going to finish. It’s going to be one of the craziest things we’ve ever seen in the sport, and no doubt the most doubleheaders in such a short time frame. The league is considering some sort of bubble and/or neutral-site system in the playoffs, notably the World Series. The league and the MLBPA are still negotiating about a playoff bubble structure.  Reports are that there will be two different bubbles.  Those two bubbles would be: In the American League: Two of the three Southern California parks — the homes of the Padres, Angels and Dodgers. National League bubble: Texas. Homes to the Astros and Rangers.  And as far as the World Series?  The current plan would be to play a neutral-site World Series at the Rangers new ballpark, Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

All Puerto Rican players can wear number “21” jerseys for Major League Baseball’s Roberto Clemente Day. Roberto Clemente Jr., the son of the Hall of Fame player, got a call from Pittsburgh Pirates manager Derek Shelton asking if all the Pirates could wear his dad’s number on September 9. The idea soon expanded to all MLB teams.  Along with being inducted intot he Hall of Fame, Roberto Clemente was a 15-time All-Star, and the 1966 NL MVP. He died in a plane crash on Dec, 31, 1972, while flying from Puerto Rico en route to bring earthquake relief supplies to Nicaragua.

With the Los Angeles Lakers earning a Game 3 win over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday, LeBron James is now the all-time leader for playoff wins in NBA history. The second-round victory was James’ 162nd of his postseason career, passing Derek Fisher for first all-time. LeBron had also passed Tim Duncan in the first round of the playoffs after the San Antonio Spurs legend had 157 in his career.  The Lakers take a 2-1 series lead.  The other game last night saw the Heat eliminating the Bucks.  The Heat will now wait for the winner of the Celtics/Raptors series.

Oklahoma City Thunder coach Billy Donovan won’t be returning to the team next season. The team said in a statement that both parties mutually agreed to part ways. Donovan’s contract expired at season’s end, and the sides decided against pursuing an extension.

The COVID-19 pandemic upended the 2019-20 NBA season and drastically altered its calendar, so it should come as no surprise that major offseason dates are reportedly still not set in stone. The NBA and its players association agreed to push back a number of notable dates in the foreseeable future such as the Oct. 16 draft, Oct. 18 start of free agency and the start of the 2020-21 season. The new dates are yet to be determined.

The Arizona Cardinals have locked up newly acquired DeAndre Hopkins to a record-setting $54.5 million extension. The All-Pro wide receiver was acquired in the offseason from the Houston Texans. Hopkins will now join quarterback Kyler Murray in Arizona through at least the 2024 season. In other NFL news, the Denver Broncos fear linebacker Von Miller’s season may be over, after he injured his ankle in practice on Tuesday.   Also – on Monday – the Detroit Lions announced they signed veteran Running back Adrian Peterson.  As of yesterday, some said that he could even take the majority of the snaps on Sunday.  Kerryon Johnson is the listed starter, but someone say AP still has it.

The college football opener between Louisiana Tech and Baylor that was scheduled to be played Saturday in Waco has been canceled, after 38 Louisiana Tech players tested positive for the coronavirus. The team believes that Hurricane Laura, which hit the school’s home town hard last month, was partly to blame for the huge number of positives. Because of lost power, players were unable to practice social distancing with the power out and ended up with a spike in positive tests. Two other games this weekend have also been postponed because of the virus; Marshall-East Carolina and UCF-Florida International. In related news,  20 year old California University of Pennsylvania football player Jamain Stephens has died from complications involving COVID-19. California University had already canceled all sports for the fall, and it’s unclear how Stephens contracted the virus.

It has been four years, but Colin Kaepernick is back in a “Madden” game. The latest update to “Madden 21” includes Kaepernick being added to the free agents list. He was given an 81 rating by EA Sports, which is good enough to make Kaepernick “in the top 15 of the video game’s 111 total quarterbacks.”  EA Sports also gave Kaepernick his own, signature touchdown celebration. With a player rating of 81, the QB is ranked higher than these notable QBs:
