DAVID LANDER passed away on Friday at the age of 73. He’s best-known for playing Andrew ‘Squiggy’ Squiggman on “Laverne & Shirley”. His sidekick on the show was Lenny, who was played by Michael McKean. David died of complications from multiple sclerosis. He was diagnosed back in 1984, one year after “Laverne & Shirley” came to an end, but he kept it a secret until 1999 with the release of his memoir, “Fall Down Laughing: How Squiggy Caught Multiple Sclerosis and Didn’t Tell Nobody”. He once said, quote, “I was afraid that too many people didn’t know what MS was, and I wasn’t in a wheelchair, I wasn’t having cognitive problems, so I thought as long as I wasn’t showing, why tell anyone?” He was worried that Hollywood wouldn’t hire someone with MS. In fact, he even used to pretend he was an alcoholic to hide some of the signs of MS . . . because Hollywood would forgive alcoholism, but wasn’t cool with MS.
Here’s some dirty pool: MATTHEW PERRY used to make his pregnant ex-girlfriend make drug runs for him. Kayti Edwards says it was in 2011. And she did it so that he wouldn’t get caught. She says, quote, “He [would say], ‘No one’s going to pull over a pregnant girl. Don’t worry.'” Kayti says Matthew would set it up and she’d go whereever and pick up the stuff. Quote, “Sometimes it was pills, cocaine, sometimes it would be heroin and crack, it was just like a smorgasbord, you never knew what you were going to get.” He would even pay her to do it . . . sometimes up to $4,000 a day. Matthew has had numerous ups and downs with addiction, but he’s reportedly clean and engaged to his 29-year-old girlfriend. Kayti says she’s happy for him.

Universal Music Publishing Group announced that it had signed a landmark deal to purchase Dylan’s entire songwriting catalog — including world-changing classics like “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “The Times They Are A-Changin’” and “Like a Rolling Stone” — in what may be the biggest acquisition ever of the music publishing rights of a single act. The deal, which covers Dylan’s entire career, from his earliest songs to the tunes on his latest album, “Rough and Rowdy Ways,” was struck directly with Dylan, who has long controlled the majority of his own songwriting copyrights. The price was not disclosed, but is estimated at more than $300 million.

79 year old DIONNE WARWICK posed this question to CHANCE THE RAPPER on social media this weekend: “If you are very obviously a rapper, why did you put it in your stage name? “I cannot stop thinking about this . . . I am now Dionne the Singer.” Chance saw the message, and was STARSTRUCK . . . quote, “Sorry, I’m still freaking out that you know who I am. This is amazing! . . . I’ll be whatever you wanna call me Ms. Warwick.” She responded, quote, “Of course I know you. You’re THE rapper. Let’s rap together. I’ll message you.” And she didn’t just stop at Chance. She also Tweeted, quote, “THE WEEKND is next. Why? It’s not even spelled correctly? If you have ‘The’ in your name, I’m coming for you. I need answers today.” The Weeknd responded, quote, “I just got roasted by Dionne Warwick, and I feel honored! You just made my day.” Dionne later said that she was just having fun.

Lakers star LeBron James became the first athlete to be named Sports Illustrated‘s Sportsperson of the Year three times, when he was one of five athlete activists to receive this year’s honor. James previously won the award in 2012 and 2016. This year, the Lakers star is one of five recipients, joined by Breanna Stewart, Patrick Mahomes, Naomi Osaka and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. The 35-year-old James capped off his NBA season by helping the Lakers win their 17th championship in franchise history. But beyond winning his fourth NBA title, James was also among a group of NBA players who used their platforms to speak out on racial inequality and voting initiatives. With the honor, James surpassed legendary golfer Tiger Woods in total Sportsperson of the Year awards, with Woods having taken home the prestigious honor in 1996 and 2000.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Logan Paul will step inside the ring for an exhibition fight on Feb. 20. Mayweather announced the event on Instagram. The legendary boxer last fought in August 2017, earning a TKO victory over Conor McGregor. Paul made his amateur boxing debut in August 2018, when he and fellow YouTube star KSI fought to a majority draw. KSI earned a split decision in their November 2019 rematch. Reports are that Paul is likely to have a significant weight advantage on Mayweather. Still, Mayweather is one of the greatest boxers of his generation, retiring after compiling a 50-0 record. He’s particularly adept at defense, so he shouldn’t have much trouble avoiding Paul’s biggest punches. Should he easily dispatch Logan Paul, perhaps Mayweather would move on to Jake Paul, who’s fresh off knocking out former NBA star Nate Robinson on the undercard of the Roy Jones Jr. and Mike Tyson exhibition event.
Someone who knows a thing or two about boxing wants to help former NBA player Nate Robinson recover from his embarrassing loss to YouTuber Jake Paul; boxing legend George Foreman. After Robinson lasted barely two rounds before getting knocked out by Paul last weekend before the Tyson-RJJ fight, Foreman told TMZ Sports “I can turn him into a 5, 6 round fighter in no-time flat. Make him do what I say.” Saying that Robinson has “untapped talent”, the former two-time Heavyweight Champion added: “He may not want to box again, but I wouldn’t want him to leave without doing a better show than he put on. You don’t wanna go on like that.”
Aaron Rodgers will surely never match Tom Brady or even Joe Montana in Super Bowl rings, but the argument can be made that he is the most talented quarterback in NFL history. Yesterday, Rodgers became the fastest player in league history to throw 400 career touchdown passes. Rodgers accomplished the feat in 193 games, putting him ahead of Drew Brees (205), Peyton Manning (209), Brady (212), Dan Marino (227), Brett Favre (228) and Philip Rivers (231).
The Gonzaga men’s basketball team has suspended team activities through Dec. 14. That followed the Bulldogs and Baylor Bears—the Nos. 1 and 2 teams in the nation—canceling their highly anticipated matchup on Saturday for COVID-19-related reasons. Gonzaga has started the season 3-0. It doesn’t seem premature to suggest a healthy Gonzaga is a clear front-runner to win the national championship this season, even if it’s facing a hiatus early in the season.
The Billikens destroyed Arkansas Pine Bluff over the weekend. SLU ran out to a 36-4 lead on the way to a 107-54 win, leaving the Golden Lions dazed and confused and forcing SLU coach Travis Ford to set goals throughout the game to keep his players focused. It’s the fastest (and easiest) SLU has ever gotten to 100 points. SLU is currently 3-0 and will face Central Arkansas at Chafietz tomorrow.
Mizzou basketball continues to roll as well. Missouri was too big, too athletic, too deep and too good for Wichita State in Sunday afternoon’s game. Besides an occasional burst, the Shockers were not able to put up much. Missouri improved to 3-0 this season with a 72-62 victory over the Shockers. WSU fell to 1-1. Up next for the Tigers is a game Wednesday against Liberty.
Mizzou football on the other hand…had a pretty interesting Saturday afternoon. After surrendering the lead in the most excruciating way possible, Missouri drove the field in the final 43 seconds and beat Arkansas 50-48 on Saturday when Harrison Mevis made a 32-yard field goal as time expired. The Tigers erased a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit to take the lead, only to give it up in the final minute. Arkansas quarterback K.J. Jefferson threw a touchdown pass to Mike Woods to cut Missouri’s lead to 48-47, and coach Sam Pittman elected to go for a 2-point conversion. Jefferson’s pass bounced off the chest of linebacker Jamal Brooks and landed in Woods’ arms. But Missouri quarterback Connor Bazelak had plenty of time to push down the field to set up the game winning field goal. Up next for the Tigers? A game against #8 Georgia in Columbia. Kick off is Saturday at 11AM.
Amon-Ra St. Brown was clearly waiting all weekend for Sunday night. St. Brown, No. 20 USC’s star junior wide receiver, scored four touchdowns in the first quarter of the Trojans’ game against Washington State. In just 15 minutes of game time, St. Brown tied the USC and Pac-12 record for touchdowns scored in a single game. He also tied an NCAA record for most touchdowns in a quarter. Coming into the game, St. Brown had 19 catches for 266 yards in three games, but had yet to find the end zone. St. Brown amassed 35 receiving yards in the first, scoring on each reception. Slovis was 12-for-13 for 133 yards in the first quarter.
