Princess Diana, died in a car crash in Paris in 1997 after a high-speed chase by paparazzi and now  Prince Harry and Meghan Markle know first hand what that experience was like after the couple was pursued for two hours by aggressive paparazzi in New York. Meghan and Harry were in town for her to receive an award. They left the venue in an SUV with a police escort, but that didn’t stop the paps. A spokesperson for the couple says, “This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers.” The NYPD has issued a statement saying, “On Wednesday evening, May 16, the NYPD assisted the private security team protecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. There were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard.”

  • The spokesperson adds that there were a half-dozen paparazzi vehicles, some going onto sidewalks and even the wrong way down a one-way street.
  • Meghan and Harry got away by leaving the SUV and ducking into a cab, while the police went in another direction to create a diversion.
