Last week, Tom Petty‘s family took legal action against RR Auction house after announcing the sale of his personal property they believe was stolen from a secured archive based on prior knowledge, staff observations and documentation. The auction house has pulled the items, which included signed albums, concert posters, a pink guitar strap and clothing, including jackets, hats, T-shirts, cowboy boots and a space-themed vest that he wore at Live Aid in 1985. Mark Zaid, a lawyer for RR Auction, says they’re cooperating with the family. “We take theft allegations such as these very seriously. We also take seriously any defamatory allegations against our company, which has developed a stellar reputation over the last half-a-century.” The items belonged to Petty’s first wife, Jane Benyo, who got them as part of their 1996 divorce settlement. But in 2015, she foreclosed on her house and the bank took possession of the property and its contents, which were then sold to the auction house.

In the game’s closing minutes, Miguel Perez, just two days after he graduated from Pattonville High School, scored his first goal in an MLS game and his first in his hometown, after which the stadium erupted. A Vancouver Whitecaps goalie mistake and a bad own goal from one of their defenders and STL CITY SC gets another win. Looked crazy good crowd and attendance wise that’s for sure. 3-1 win for City SC over the Vancouver Whitecaps. With the win, City SC has 25 points, reaching that figure in fewer games than any MLS expansion team ever has done. It gets there in one game fewer than the Chicago Fire needed in 1998, and that Fire team went on to win the MLS Cup that season. So it’s pretty good company. For all the talk about City SC’s offense struggling without striker Klauss, who missed his fifth game, the team has managed to score seven goals in the past two games and even without the team’s leading scorer, City SC is tied for the league lead in goals with 29 and has the best goal difference at plus-15. The team is tied for second in the Western Conference, one point behind Seattle Sounders FC. www.stltoday.com
By the time the Cardinals offense got a freaking hit, it was too little, too late as they fell 7-0 to the Kansas City Royals in the first installment of this year’s I-70 series. Former Cardinals pitcher Mike Mayers tossed six perfect innings to squash the Cardinals’ offense, which finished the day with two hits. They were shut out for the sixth time this season. The Cardinals entered the day having gone 3-4 on their recent seven-game road trip in Ohio. They’ll play two games with the Royals, then they’ll have two days off before they begin their next two-city road trip. Nolan Arenado’s leadoff single to left field to start the eighth inning broke up the perfect game and no-hit bid. The next batter, Willson Contreras, singled up the middle and snapped an 0-for-27 slump. Those were the only hits for the Cardinals. Nootbaar, who entered the day with 29 hits and 15 RBIs in May, pulled up awkwardly as he reached the warning track and then fell to the turf as right fielder Tommy Edman fielded the ball and threw it back to the infield. Nootbaar left the game in the top of the third inning with a lower back spasm
Scottie Pippen may have his issues with Michael Jordan, but he needs to keep things in perspective. Because now he just sounds like a FOOL.
In a recent interview, he literally called Jordan a HORRIBLE PLAYER. And he wasn’t talkin’ baseball.
Scottie was asked to name the true GOAT of the NBA, and he said that from a statistical perspective, it’s LeBron James.
Then he added, quote, “I don’t believe that there’s a great player. Because our game is a team game, and one player can’t do it. I seen Michael Jordan play before I came to play with the Bulls. You guys seen him play.
“He’s a horrible player, he was horrible to play with. He was all one on one, he’s shooting bad shots. And all of a sudden, we become a team and we start winning, everybody forgot who he was.”
There’s no word if this is related, but he also posted a picture of his younger self on Instagram, with the caption, “From humble beginnings to 6 championships, 2 gold medals, Hall of Fame, and leading the Bulls franchise with the most playoff wins.
“Here’s to the unsung heroes . . . Cheers!” (Yahoo!)
