Pro wrestling legend “MR. WONDERFUL” PAUL ORNDORFF died yesterday. He was 71 years old. There’s no word on the cause of death, but it’s pretty clear that Orndorff was suffering from some sort of dementia possibly caused by his time in the ring. In one post his son Travis said, quote, “I hope the world will start to take notice of the brain damage and the consequences of this lifestyle.” Orndorff was pretty big in the WWF in the ’80s. He was in the main event of “Wrestlemania 1” in 1985 with Roddy Piper, Hulk Hogan and Mr. T. Orndorff is in the WWE Hall of Fame, and also the University of Tampa Hall of Fame. He was a star running back there before he became a wrestler.
blink-182’s Mark Hoppus (49), who has been undergoing chemo for cancer for around 3 months now, posted an update over the weekend that he’ll be taking a test that will reveal his life expectancy. The 49-year-old wrote on Twitter “Apologies if I’m oversharing but it’s so surreal to think that this week I’ll take a test that may very well determine if I live or die.” “I’m going to beat this through chemotherapy or through bone marrow transplants, but either way I’m determined to kick cancer’s ass directly in the nuts. Love to you all. Let’s. Heckin. Go.” Hoppus hasn’t revealed what type of cancer he has been diagnosed with.
DRAKE BELL was sentenced in an Ohio court for child endangerment. He got two years’ probation and 200 hours of community service. He admitted over Zoom that his “conduct was wrong,” and apologized to the victim, saying he had no intention of harming her. The victim claims that Drake groomed her from the age of 12, sending her sexually explicit messages and pictures of his genitalia, before sexually abusing her when she was 15. She’s 19 now. Drake has denied the sexual abuse and wasn’t charged with it. He has also denied sending explicit photos. Less than an hour after pleading guilty, Drake was on Instagram Live for a “Father Son Jam Sesh” with his infant son, whose existence he only revealed about two weeks ago.
Last week, Bill Cosby’s representative said Bill, who was recently released from jail, wants to head out on tour. The Comedy Cellar in New York City DID provide a stage for Louis CK and Aziz Ansari after they both were hit with sexual assault allegations. Cosby was charged and convicted. The owner, (Noam Dworman), says ummmm no thanks. He says that the club has no interest in hosting Cosby. Cosby’s spokesperson said, “That’s one club owner, and in the words of the king of R&B, Bobby Brown, it’s his prerogative to do what he wants to do.” The Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned Cosby’s conviction in June.
Marvel’s “Black Widow” had the biggest opening since COVID pulling in $80 million over three days. Twas also available on Disney+ for an extra 30 bucks. And it earned an additional $60 million there. A sealed copy of “Super Mario 64” for the Nintendo 64 just set the record for the MOST EXPENSIVE game ever sold at $1.56 MILLION at auction. This record broke one that was JUST set last Friday from the same auction house. It was another Nintendo game an unopened 1986 “Legend of Zelda” for the NES which sold for $870,000. The “Zelda” game is a very rare, original version and only a handful were made. So yours most likely ISN’T one of them. In the case of “Mario”, less than FIVE copies are known to exist that are still sealed and in such excellent condition.

Yesterday the American League, in big thanks to Vlad Guerrero Jr’s 468 foot bomb – beat the National League 5-2 in the All Star Game. It’s the 8th consecutive win for the AL. This coming a day after Pete Alonso repeated as home run derby champ. Vlad Jr was named the MVP.
One weird thing from the All-Star game is that Tim Anderson from the White Sox joins an exclusive club. Anderson joins 4 other players – most recently Scott Podsednik in 2005 – as a position player to make the All-Star team but not get an at-bat. He was put into the game as a defensive replacement and would have gotten an at-bat but he was left on deck in the bottom of the 8th. The manager of the AL All-Stars Kevin Cash says he is sick to his stomach about Anderson not getting an at-bat.
Banning the shift, eliminating seven-inning doubleheaders and playing extra innings without a runner starting on second base are all on the table as Major League Baseball continues its return to normalcy while also negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement with the players’ association. Commissioner Rob Manfred said: “[As] It was a COVID-related change. I don’t think that seven-inning doubleheaders are going to be part of our future going forward.” Manfred indicated the same about the extra-innings rule, and he seemed to advocate for banning the shift. That ban is being experimented with at Double-A, where infielders must have their feet on the dirt.
The Los Angeles Angels made unique draft history this week: They made 20 picks in the 20-round draft and selected 20 pitchers. The only other team to select all pitchers in a draft was the Miami Marlins a year ago, but MLB shortened that draft to just five rounds due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Miami University right-hander Sam Bachman was the Angels’ first-round pick — one of 19 college pitchers they selected. Angels scouting director Matt Swanson said the team didn’t necessarily rule out selecting a position player, especially in the earlier rounds, but at some point during the final 10 rounds on Tuesday decided to “let it ride.”
The NBA Finals continue tonight. Phoenix took the first two games against the Bucks but Milwaukee got a win in game 3 back at home. Tonight, Game 4 is in Milwaukee and the Bucks look to tie up the series. Tip off is scheduled for 8PM.
Team USA Basketball is back to it’s winning ways after it lost two in a row to opponents that they easily should have beat. Team USA lost to both Nigeria and Australia in back-to-back games…and it actually was pretty shocking. The game against Nigeria is being called the biggest international basketball upset of all time. However – USA beat Argentina 108-80 yesterday. On Friday, the US will get another chance at Australia.
On Saturday- the 3rd version of the McGregor/Poirier fight took place in Vegas. And – yikes – it was ugly. Conor McGregor broke his leg about 20 seconds into the first round. It was crazy because it actually took a few more seconds after the initial break – when Conor transferred his weight to his back foot – that the actual break/snap happened. McGregor had surgery that night and it’s gonna be a long road to recovery. Another note from the fight on Saturday…Former NFL player Greg Hardy lasted only a minute in his latest UFC fight. Hardy took a hard left hook to the face one minute into the first round and went out cold. The NFL has wanted nothing to do with Hardy, who faced domestic violence charges in 2014.
Things did not go well for the NFL on Monday in a St. Louis courtroom. Specifically, things didn’t go well for the Commissioner and several owners. The judge has found enough fraudulent behavior to justify probing their financial records for the purposes of eventually assessing punitive damages. As one source suggested on Monday night, the ruling quite possibly will lead to a settlement of the case. It makes sense. Commissioner Roger Goodell, Rams owner Stan Kroenke, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Patriots owner Robert Kraft, and Giants owner John Mara won’t want to let anyone probe their financial records. Monday’s ruling surely increased the price. So now’s the time to convene an emergency Zoom call for the purposes of passing the hat. Especially since the hat will be passed directly to Kroenke, and it will stay there. He and COO Kevin Demoff quite possibly budgeted for the litigation costs when running all the numbers and realizing it made more sense to move to L.A. than stay in St. Louis. Whatever the price it’s time for Kroenke — who paid his fellow owners $645 million just for the privilege to move to L.A. — to crack out the check book and make this go away. A source even suggested that the league might want to look into awarding St. Louis an expansion franchise as a measure of good faith. This could get interesting. If you look at some of the things coming out – the ownership of the Rams really screwed up big time when it came to the move, and the NFL let it happen.
