THE WEEKND will do the halftime show at the 2021 Super Bowl scheduled for February 7th at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. Mr. Weeknd says, quote, “I’m humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage this year.” JAY-Z obviously had some say in the choice, given his partnership with the NFL. And he said, quote, “The Weeknd has introduced a sound all his own. His soulful uniqueness has defined a new generation of greatness in music and artistry. “This is an extraordinary moment in time and [the show] is going to be an extraordinary experience with an extraordinary performer.”
More than three dozen firefighters from the Los Angeles and Beverly Hills fire departments rushed to the Beverly Crest home of 65 year old Denzel Washington on Wednesday night after smoke was seen coming out of the four-story mansion’s second floor. There were no flames seen, and with all the occupants waiting outside, firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to thoroughly scan the 29,000-square-foot home. LA Fire Department thinks the source of the smoke may have been a recently serviced furnace, which has since been turned off. No one was hurt, and the occupants were allowed to go back inside around 10:30pm.
“Jeopardy!” producers still won’t discuss a possible replacement for ALEX TREBEK . . . but fans are pushing for their favorites. Including “Reading Rainbow” host LEVAR BURTON. A petition to give him the gig was closing in on 50,000 signatures as of last night. And to be clear, LeVar WANTS the job. Someone suggested him on Twitter back in September, and he replied, quote, “Not gonna lie, I feel like I’ve been preparing my whole life to occupy the host podium when Alex retires.
Remember those 2 songs that Armenian-Americans System of A Down released to raise money for Armenians effected by the conflict with Azerbaijan and Turkey. The first from the band in about 15 years. People apparently took heed to the tune of about $600,000 worth of downloads.
JOHNNY DEPP’s issues with AMBER HEARD cost him his gig in the “Fantastic Beasts” movies . . . and that doesn’t fly with the Deppers. That’s the name of his fans I just made up. Somebody launched a petition to get HER fired from “Aquaman 2”. . . and it has well over 1.1 million signatures. The petition claims that Amber was the abusive one in the relationship, not Johnny . . . and since their split she’s been on a crusade to ruin him. For the record, Amber doesn’t care what the haters think. She says, quote, “Paid rumors and paid campaigns on social media don’t dictate [casting decisions] because they have no basis in reality. “Only the fans actually made ‘Aquaman’ and ‘Aquaman 2’ happen. I’m excited to get started next year.”

AC/DC’s Brian Johnson is giving thanks for the experimental technology that has helped him deal with his hearing issues. After doctors told him to give his ears a break Johnson left the band in 2016. He can’t say much about his top-secret hearing device because of a non-disclosure agreement but did say it will help others soon: “Technology moves faster and faster. There’s a lot of people out there that suffer. But it will be out, and it’s fabulous. Soon it will be there. And I got it first!” Not much is known about Johnson’s hearing aid except that it uses the skull’s bone structure as a receiver. AC/DC tested Johnson’s hearing device while shooting their music video for “Shot in The Dark”, managing a concert rehearsal with success.

We’ve all faced challenges in the age of COVID, but I don’t envy Lifetime. Because they had to figure out how people were going to kiss in their holiday movies. Luckily, they DID. They made the actors kiss through a PLEXIGLASS BARRIER that could be removed later with digital technology. A programming exec at Lifetime called the process, quote, “absolutely phenomenal.” They even released a photo from the set of “Christmas Ever After”, showing actors Ali Stroker and Daniel di Tomasso kissing a big piece of plexiglass . . . which you WON’T see when the movie airs December 6th.

Universal Pictures and Dwayne Johnson are looking to relaunch a new Scorpion King movie. Johnson will produce. With Johnson booked through 2022, the studio will look to tap a new actor to play the action hero as well as a director. It’s likely he won’t appear in the movie but given how important the property is to Johnson and the studio, there is always a possibility he could make an appearance when this film does finally get into production.
Anyone still watching 13 Reasons Why? Season 4 I guess wrapped this past summer. That is produced by Selena Gomez. Ms. Gomez now will make whats probably her biggest movie so far. She is going to play mountaineer Silvia Vásquez-Lavado. Its based on Silvia’s memoir after she became the first openly gay woman to scale all Seven Summits, the highest points on every continent, and the first Peruvian woman to climb Mt. Everest. She is a respected survivor of abuse as well. She is the founder of Courageous Girls, a nonprofit, which helps survivors of childhood sexual violence heal through mountain climbing.
CBS is taking a big step toward diversity. From here on out, all of its unscripted shows have to have casts that are 50% NON-WHITE. That includes “Survivor”, “Big Brother”, and “Love Island”. Also, CBS will commit at least 25% of its annual unscripted budget to projects created or co-created by minorities . . . and they want at least 40% representation in writers’ rooms.

The Indianapolis Colts are now AFC South co-leaders after defeating the host Tennessee Titans 34-17. Indianapolis, which trailed 17-13 at halftime, scored 21 unanswered points in the second half thanks to Titans’ special teams problems. Titans punter Trevor Daniel shanked a 17-yard punt. Shortly thereafter, E.J. Speed’s punt block on the Titans’ next possession led to a scoop-and-score. Don’t forget to make your other picks at 1057thepoint.com/picks

He ranked first in runs batted in (60) and second in home runs (19) among all hitters to go along with a strong .317 average.
A three-hour rain delay wasn’t enough to put a damper on Paul Casey’s performance in the first round at the 2020 Masters. Casey finished the day with a seven-under 65, giving him a two-shot lead over Webb Simpson, Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele. Tiger Woods is off to a terrific start. He’s one of seven players tied for fifth place. As a result of the inclement weather early in the day, 44 players were unable to finish their rounds before play was suspended due to darkness.
The Ivy League canceled all winter sports for the 2020-21 season due to the coronavirus pandemic. League presidents held their vote earlier this week and began informing member schools yesterday. Spring sports have been postponed through at least the end of February 2021 and fall sports—previously postponed until winter—will not be played. Anyone with an extra $500,000 burning a hole in their pocket could potentially own the jersey from Michael Jordan’s final NBA game. Goldin Auctions is going to list Jordan’s Washington Wizards uniform from April 16, 2003, and it expects the jersey to sell for “over $500,000.” Goldin Auctions’ website notes the Jordan items will be listed for public bidding starting on Nov. 23. They come from George Koehler’s collection. Koehler was featured on The Last Dance documentary that aired on ESPN earlier this year. He was described as Jordan’s “personal assistant and best friend.” TMZ noted Jordan wore the jersey being auctioned off for the final 14 road games of his career. Jordan had 15 points, four rebounds and four assists in Washington’s 107-87 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers in his last game.

For the first time since 1979, Missouri and Illinois will meet on the basketball court somewhere other than St. Louis. And for the first time since 1978, it’ll happen in Columbia. The “Braggin’ Rights on Campus” coin flip took place Thursday night, and it was the Tigers tails who didn’t fail. Mizzou Athletic Director Jim Sterk and Illinois Athletic Director Josh Whitman were present via Zoom when the coin flip took place. It was the Mizzou Tiger logo that showed up when flipped! The annual rivalry game has traditionally been held in St. Louis since 1980, but won’t take place in the gateway city this year because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
