Foo Fighters unveiled Josh Freese as the drummer for their upcoming tour during a pre-taped rehearsal that streamed on Veeps.com. The hour-long event started with a few teases. Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili PeppersTommy Lee of Motley Crue and Danny Carey of Tool made cameos at the Foos’ L.A.-area rehearsal room Studio 606 before Freese was revealed sitting behind the drum kit and they launched into “All My Life.” They premiered one song from their upcoming But Here We Are album, “Nothing At All,” and played two others. They also covered the Huey Lewis and the News song “Workin’ for a Livin'” and threw the riff from “Paranoid” by Black Sabbath into “No Son of Mine.” They closed the stream with two songs from the last century, “Money Wrench” — with Dave Grohl forgetting the words to the second verse — and “Aurora.”

Former Ted Nugent band singer and guitarist Derek St. Holmes is not a fan of his former boss’s mix of music and politics. He says, “I think it hurts us a little bit. It hurts the brand to get yourself involved in politics and try to play music and rock and roll… I want to go to a concert and have a good time — I don’t want anybody to bring the six o’clock news to me again, especially over a loud mic… Hopefully his guitar-playing and his attitude will supersede all that craziness as time goes on.”

The first of two Jeff Beck tribute concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall will be held tonight and tomorrow. Among the performers he invited, in addition to Stewart, are Ronnie Wood, rhythm guitarist and bassist in The Jeff Beck Group at the same time as Stewart, Billy Gibbons, Joe Perry, Johnny Depp, Kirk Hammett, Gary Clark Junior, Imelda May, John McLaughlin, Robert Randolph, Olivia Safe, Joss Stone, Susan Tedeschi and her husband, Derek Trucks.

A guitar that was reconstructed after having been smashed by Nirvana‘s Kurt Cobain sold for just under $600,000 at auction over the weekend, nearly 10 times what it had been expected to fetch. The black left-handed Fender Stratocaster was not only signed by all three members of Nirvana, but had a few different inscriptions by Cobain, including one to Mark Lanegan of fellow Seattle band Screaming Trees, who died in February 2022.

Clapton, whose friendship with Beck dates back to 1965 when Beck replaced him in The Yardbirds, went to visit him in the hospital on January 1st, Clapton’s 21st wedding anniversary, where Beck was being treated for bacterial meningitis.

A homeless man got into Owen Wilson’s house and put on a pair of his pajamas.  His assistant came home and scared the guy off, and cops caught him in a neighbor’s yard.  It doesn’t sound like he stole anything else.

SPOILER ALERT: We need to talk about ‘The Shawshank Redemption’, which came out in 1994, so if you’re going to be upset about these spoilers, that’s kind of on you – because some fans have been debating online about the ending of that movie. Mainly about how Tim Robbins’ character probably would have DIED crawling through that sewage pipe to freedom in “The Shawshank Redemption”  (LINK)
