Today is National Napping Day

Word started spreading over the weekend that JENNIFER LOPEZ and ALEX RODRIGUEZ had broken up, but it’s not true.  Yet. They DID release a statement saying that they’re, quote, “working through some things” . . . so it might just be a matter of time. I saw a quote that said they hit a rough patch.  But before you say what’s obviously in your head, it doesn’t sound like there’s a third party involved. Not even MADISON LECROY from the Bravo reality show “Southern Charm”.  There were rumors last month that A-Rod was hittin’ that, but a source says those rumors had nothing to do with his issues with J-Lo. Jennifer and Alex have been together for about four years.  They got engaged in the Bahamas in March of 2019.

The Grammys went almost 3 hours and 45 minutes last night. How much did you sit through?  The show was heavy on performers, including Billie Eilish, Post Malone, BTS, Taylor Swift, Haim, Lil Baby, DaBaby, Harry Styles Baby, Miranda Lambert, and Maren Morris with John Mayer. Even the In Memoriam segment included multiple live performances.  Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak did a tribute to Little Richard, Lionel Richie paid tribute to Kenny Rogers. Last night may also be remembered as the beginning of BLUE IVY CARTER’s rise to GLOBAL DOMINANCE.  At 9 years old, she won her first Grammy.  She and her mom won Best Music Video for “Brown Skin Girl”. The current record holder is Leah Peasall, who was eight years old when the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack took home Album of the Year in 2002.  BEYONCÉ won four, giving her 28 lifetime Grammys, which is the most for a female artist.  It’s also the most for a performing artist. And she’s tied with Quincy Jones for second-most Grammy wins overall. TAYLOR SWIFT got Album of the Year), BILLIE EILISH won Record of the Year. Megan Thee Stallion won Best New Artist . . . becoming the first female rapper to do it since Lauryn Hill in 1999. The Miseducation of Lauren Hill.

Best Rock Song:  “Stay High”,  Brittany Howard

Best Rock Album:  “The New Abnormal”,  The Strokes

Best Rock Performance:  “Shameika”,  Fiona Apple

Best Metal Performance:  “Bum-Rush”,  Body Count

Best Alternative Music Album:  “Fetch the Bolt Cutters”,  Fiona Apple

Best Musical Theater Album:  “Jagged Little Pill”,  Original Broadway Cast

One last, quick note:  A guy who won an award before the televised portion of the ceremony meant to thank two men named Rob Epstein & Jeffrey Friedman.  But um OOPS he mixed up their names and accidentally thanked Rob Friedman and JEFFREY EPSTEIN.  Bet he wishes he had that one back.

Also, I want to mention that The Weeknd wasn’t nominated for a Grammy, remember, he was pretty upset? Well the Kids Choice Awards were Saturday and he was nominated for 2 awards…and lost both.

Nominees for the Golden Raspberry Awards were announced over the weekend, and the most-nominated movies this time around are . . .The Robert Downey Jr. movie “Dolittle” and Netflix’s erotic Polish drama “365 Days”, which both got six nominations . . . “Fantasy Island”, which got five . . . and Sia’s “Music”, which got four. All four are up for Worst Picture . . . along with “Absolute Proof”, which is an election fraud “documentary” from the My Pillow guy. The nominees for Worst Actor are:  Robert Downey Jr. (“Dolittle”), the My Pillow guy Mike Lindell (“Absolute Proof”), Michele Morrone (“365 Days”), Adam Sandler (“Hubie Halloween”), and David Spade (“The Wrong Missy”).

The nominees for Worst Actress are:  Anne Hathaway (“The Last Thing He Wanted” and “Roald Dahl’s The Witches”), Katie Holmes (“Brahms: The Boy II” and “The Secret: Dare to Dream”), Kate Hudson (“Music”), Lauren Lapkus (“The Wrong Missy”), and Anna-Maria Sieklucka (“365 Days”).

The winners will be announced on April 24th.  There will also be a special presentation, awarding 2020 the “Worst Calendar Year EVER!”

I have only seen Rage Against the Machine once. But I have seen their guitar player Tom Morella a few more times. Once was at Pointfest when he was doing Street Sweeper Social Club. It was hot as 2 mice making love in a burlap sack up stairs in the attic where there isn’t any air conditioning. Mr Morella was sweating his toushy off. Seems that’s not the only way he has sweat for a living. Back in the day he and his room mate wanted a hot tub to help with their dating scene but had no money. After a cost analysis they decided to do stripping. They never did the stage thing actually but instead did private parties like wedding showers.   “You’re wearing a suit, you knock at the door, ask for a cup of sugar, ‘Brick House’ comes on the stereo,” he said. “It wasn’t awesome, I gotta tell you. It wasn’t awesome, it really wasn’t. It was weird.”

A teacher named Nick Harrison set the alphabet to KORN’s “Coming Undone”, and JONATHAN DAVIS reposted the video. – TikTok

Here’s Britney Spears answering frequently-asked questions, including “Have I ever kissed a girl” . . . to which there is a very obvious answer.

The St. Louis Blues were in action in back-to-back gams against the Vegas Golden Knights at Enterprise Center.   The Blues lost 5-4 on Friday after the game went into overtime.  And then, Saturday, it was much uglier.  The Knights picked up a 5-1 win against the Blues.  Tonight, the team is back on the road as they are in LA to take on the Kings.  Puck Drop tonight is scheduled for 9PM.

Jordan Hicks made his return in a competitive MLB game this weekend.  And – it took forever.  Not his return – but the actual at bat.  Against the Mets Hicks faced one batter for 22 pitches – a total of 12 minutes – before walking him.  But – its good to see the big fella back – he threw a pitch that reached 101.4MPH.   Cards did end up losing to the Mets 7-5.  The play today at 12:05PM.  John Gant gets the start for the Cardinals.

One of the most prolific careers in NFL history has come to an end, as New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees announced Sunday on Instagram he has decided to retire after 20 seasons. Brees’ four children, Baylen, Bowen, Callen and Rylen, announced in a video: “After 15 years with the Saints and 20 years in the NFL, our dad is finally gonna retire. So he can spend more time with us! Yeah!!”Brees added a message to the post that read: “After 20 years as a player in the NFL and 15 years as a Saint, it is time I retire from the game of football. Each day, I poured my heart & soul into being your Quarterback. Til the very end, I exhausted myself to give everything I had to the Saints organization, my team, and the great city of New Orleans. We shared some amazing moments together and will forever be a part of us. Just listen to some of these stats:

  • All-time leader in passing yards and completions (2nd in passing TDs)
    • Owns three best single-season completion percentage marks
    • Owns best single-game completion percentage mark (96.7%)
    • Most seasons leading NFL in passing yards (7)
    • Most consecutive games with a passing TD (54)
    • Most career games with 300+ passing yards (123)
    • Matched single-game record with 7 passing TDs
    • Only player with multiple 5,000-yard seasons (5)

The Saints signed quarterback Taysom Hill to a four-year, $140 million contract extension on Sunday. It’s unlikely Hill sees anywhere close to the reported $140 million on his new deal. All four years of Hill’s extension are voidable, allowing the Saints to release Hill or restructure his contract once again without any penalty in the salary cap. The move will save New Orleans $7.5 million this season as the team faces a salary-cap crunch.

The Packers have secured their starting running back of the future after re-signing Aaron Jones on Sunday. Jones made the move official on social media with a simple message. Jones signed a four-year deal worth $48 million including a $13 million signing bonus.

Gonzaga is the No. 1 overall seed in this year’s NCAA men’s basketball tournament after a dominant season that saw them go undefeated. Baylor, Illinois and Michigan were awarded the other No. 1 seeds by the selection committee on Sunday.  Where did Mizzou fall?  They got a 9th seed and will take on Oklahoma as an 8th seed.  If they win that game, they will more than likely take on Gonzaga.  What about SLU?  Well – SLU is considered one of the first 4 “At Ready” teams.  If for whatever reason COVID hits a team and they have to bounce out, one of these schools would step in.  It looks like SLU will be heading to the NIT tourney as a #1 seed.  Because SLU is the 3rd alternate if a team drops out by Tuesday night.  But, that’s a stretch.  Look for SLU to take on Mississippi State on Saturday at 4PM in the NIT tourney.

Justin Thomas found the right time for a near-perfect performance to put a rough start to the year behind him, rallying from three shots behind to close with a 4-under 68 and win the Players Championship on Sunday. He won for the seventh straight year, his 14th career title, and became only the fourth player to win a major, the Players Championship, the FedEx Cup and a World Golf Championship.

Former undisputed middleweight world champion ‘Marvelous’ Marvin Hagler has died. He dominated the middleweight division from 1979 until his controversial defeat by Sugar Ray Leonard in April 1987. His wife posted online: “Today, unfortunately my beloved husband Marvelous Marvin passed away unexpectedly at his home here in New Hampshire.”  Hagler fought 67 times during his 14-year professional career, winning 62. His most famous fight came in April 1985 when he fought Thomas ‘Hit Man’ Hearns over three brutal rounds – a classic known as ‘The War’. Hagler made 12 successful title defences until his defeat by Leonard by a split decision and he retired a year later. Hagler was 66 years old.
