So many Americans found out from Howard Cosell and Frank Gifford. There was an off-air debate about whether it was the right thing to do during a football game. (If you’re curious, the Patriots were playing the Dolphins, and the Dolphins won 16-13 in overtime.  Here is a short news report montage, with details on the shooting of John Lennon on December 8, 2020. (The shooter was former Honolulu, Hawaii security guard Mark David Chapman.  He’s up for parole again in 2022.  He’s been denied 11 times.  The “Double Fantasy” album cover that John signed that night is currently up for auction, with a bid of $450,000.)

Legendary Entertainment is a production company and they co financed both Dune and Godzilla vs King. 2 of the 17 movies that Warner Bros. decided to send to HBO Max at the same time as they open in theaters. Legendary is not happy with that decision. Partly because they were not consulted. Dune cost about $175 million and Godzilla vs Kind about $160 million. Legendary may call for breach of contract in court. They say a lawsuit hasn’t been drawn up yet but they are not dismissing the idea. Legendary and Warner have done work in the past on movies likes the Dark Knight Trilogy, The Hangover movies and the Godzilla franchise. Godzillas Kong is opening May 21 and Dune Oct 1.

There is no longer an undefeated team in the NFL.  The Steelers lost to the Washington Football Team last night as they picked up the 23-17 win against Pittsburgh.  That was just game 1 of the Monday Night doubleheader.  The Bills beat the 49ers in the night game…final score there…34-24.

The New York Jets fired defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, the team announced on Monday. Williams and the Jets fell to the Oakland Raiders on Sunday 31-28. New York allowed a go-ahead, 46-yard Raiders touchdown with just five seconds remaining in the game. The Jets sent seven pass rushers at quarterback Derek Carr on the eventual game-winning play to become the only team since at least 2006 to send six or more pass rushers in the final 15 seconds of regulation, when leading between four and eight points and being 40 or more yards from the end zone. Williams was hired as New York’s defensive coordinator ahead of the 2019 NFL season. He previously worked with the Browns, Rams, Saints, Jaguars and Washington franchise.

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright has been named the winner of the 2020 Roberto Clemente Award. The annual award named after the Hall of Fame outfielder is given to the player who displays “extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.”  Each team in the majors nominates one player for the award, and Wainwright has been nominated five times for the honor during his career and claimed the award for the first time this season. It’s the second time in the last three years a Cardinals player has won after catcher Yadier Molina was honored in 2018.

A game-worn and autographed jersey from Wayne Gretzky’s NHL rookie season with the Edmonton Oilers in 1979-80 sold for $478,800 at an auction Monday. It was proven that Gretzky wore the blue and orange jersey during his debut NHL campaign. As an NHL rookie, The Great One immediately showed off the skill level and production that would go on to make him the most accomplished player in NHL history. In 79 games as a rookie, Gretzky registered 51 goals and 86 assists for 137 points, tying him for the league lead in scoring. He also won the Hart Memorial Trophy as league MVP and was named the NHL’s most gentlemanly player by virtue of winning the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. To this day, Gretzky’s performance in 1979-80 remains the greatest showing by a rookie in NHL history. Overall, the Canadian is a nine-time Hart Trophy winner, 10-time Art Ross Trophy winner as the NHL’s leading scorer, four-time Stanley Cup champion and two-time Conn Smythe Trophy winner as playoff MVP. A Wayne Gretzky rookie card could set a new record when it’s auctioned off later this week. The mint condition 1979 O-Pee-Chee Gretzky rookie card, which is being sold by Heritage Auctions, is expected to become the first hockey card to break the $1-million mark

The International Olympic Committee officially introduced breakdancing for the 2024 Olympics in Paris on Monday as the organization attempts to attract younger viewership. In addition, the IOC confirmed skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing for the Paris Games. The three sports had been added for the 2020 Summer Olympics on a preliminary basis. Despite being untested given the postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Games to 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the sports received approval for 2024 to help Paris ready its facilities. Breaking, as it will be known for Olympic purposes, is a youth-driven sport largely comprised of teenagers and people in their early 20s. The United States has overwhelmingly been dominant in International B-Boy championships, while South Korea, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom also have strongholds in the sport.
