‘Pioneer Woman’ Ree Drummond’s nephew is hospitalized in critical condition after an accident at the family’s Oklahoma ranch, where her relatives were battling a fire. Her 21-year-old nephew, Caleb Drummond, was involved in a head-on collision Wednesday, and the force of the crash sent his body flying 70 feet away. Caleb was driving a fire truck when he crashed head-on into another fire truck driven by Ree’s husband, Ladd Drummond. When they collided there was low visibility due to high winds on a dirt road, and Caleb was not wearing a seatbelt. He’s been transported to a Tulsa medical center, where he’s in critical condition with head, arm and leg injuries as well as internal bleeding.
Remember when a homeless ex-con guy cold cocked actor Rick Moranis? Being the human he is he has refused to submit to a psychiatric examination or speak to his lawyer. The same day as the Rick attack, Ventura allegedly punched the owner of a Soho liquor store and took a bottle of champagne. His own lawyer says he has refused 3 requests for video conferencing. He is also accused of other random street attacks shortly before the Rick roll. His lawyer said he suffers from schizophrenia and has been hospitalized in seven different states.

If I told you there was a movie in the works called “Cocaine Bear” starring Kathryn Heigel and Corbin Bernsen you’d probably say I remember Corbin Bernsen then see what time the Blues game is on. Not the case here. “Cocaine Bear” is actually a thriller being directed by ELIZABETH BANKS, and it’s based on a TRUE STORY. Back in 1985, a drug smuggler named Andrew Thornton dropped a duffel bag filled with 70 pounds of coke from his plane over Georgia, on the way back from a drug run to Colombia. A 175-pound bear found the bag, ate the contents, and DIED. So how do you get a whole movie out of that? Well, the bear seems kind of incidental to the wider story about Thornton, which is pretty crazy. He was a former narcotics cop who went to the DARK SIDE and started smuggling. This particular run took place on September 11th, 1985. Apparently, he had dropped some of the coke because it was too heavy for his plane. Sometime after the Georgia dump, Thornton tried to jump out of the plane. But he got caught in his parachute and fell like a stone, landing in some guy’s driveway in Knoxville, Tennessee. He died on impact. The plane crashed 60 miles away in Hayesville, North Carolina. When his body was discovered, Thornton was wearing a bulletproof vest and Gucci loafers. He also had night vision goggles, $15 million worth of coke, $4,500 in cash, gold Krugerrands, knives, and two pistols. The body of the bear was discovered three months later, among 40 open plastic containers and some cocaine residue. The now-taxidermized bear is on display at the Kentucky for Kentucky Fun Mall.

The Cardinals on Tuesday announced that they have struck a partnership with the Gateway Grizzlies — a member of the independent Frontier League — to host their alternate training site at GCS Credit Union Ballpark in Sauget. The move is a change — and one of much closer proximity — after the club used the facilities at Double-A Springfield for the 2020 alternate training site. The Grizzlies’ ballpark is about eight miles away from Busch Stadium, setting up a more cohesive relationship, the club hopes. The alternate training site, like in 2020, will be used as a training base for players on the taxi squad and who could be possible roster callups before the Minor Leagues’ seasons begin; last week, the Triple-A schedule was pushed back a month to begin in May. A maximum of 28 players will be permitted at the camp, which will be run by the staff of Triple-A Memphis.
The Cardinals lost to the Nationals yesterday 3-2. They are off today and take on the Astros’ on Friday. Adam Wainwright will get the start for the Cardinals.

A ticket from the game (section 302, Row 2W, Seat 2) was on the auction block at Goldin Auctions … and after 42 bids, it ultimately sold for $40,590. The identity of the buyer is not known.
The XFL and Canadian Football League announced on Wednesday that the two leagues are working toward a potential partnership. The leagues said in a statement they will work together to “identify opportunities for the leagues to collaborate, innovate, and grow the game of football.” No agreement has been reached regarding a potential merging of the leagues. The exact nature of a potential partnership has yet to be announced. The XFL was previously planning to return in 2022 after it canceled its 2020 season amid bankruptcy proceedings. The league announced on Wednesday those plans have been put “on hold” due to conversations with the CFL.
Paul Pierce, Chris Bosh, Chris Webber and Ben Wallace are among the finalists in the 2021 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame class. Pierce, a first-time nominee, spent 15 of his 19 NBA seasons with the Boston Celtics, winning a championship and Finals MVP in 2008. He’s a 10-time All-Star and second on the Celtics’ career scoring list. Bosh’s playing career ended unexpectedly in 2016 after 13 seasons due to a blood clot issue. Bosh, an 11-time All-Star, two-time NBA champion and Olympic gold medalist, officially retired in 2019 as a member of the Miami Heat. Webber, the No. 1 pick in 1993, was a five-time All-Star in his 17 NBA seasons and a primary part in Michigan’s “Fab Five,” whose legacy has reshaped college basketball for more than two decades. Wallace, one of the greatest defenders in NBA history, was a four-time All-Star. He won a championship in 2004 with the Detroit Pistons.
Hockey is BACK on ESPN! The network is believed to have reached a seven-year deal to become one of the league’s media partners starting next season. There was no confirmation from the NHL on an agreement that is expected to see ESPN get the rights to broadcast four Stanley Cup Finals between 2022 and 2028. Financial terms of the deal weren’t immediately available, nor was it clear which other media company would split the package with ESPN. NBC currently pays $200 million annually for exclusive U.S. media rights that expire after this season.
All a team needs to play in this year’s NCAA tournament is five healthy players. Yesterday, the NCAA selection committee began meeting to hash out a 68-team bracket that could remain in flux up until the games tip off next week. In explaining a number of contingencies that could come into play if teams are exposed to COVID-19, NCAA senior VP of basketball Dan Gavitt said that as long as a team has five healthy players, it’s good to go. As far as if a coach or coaching staff gets it? He said: “We’ll have to discuss that with the committee.” Mizzou kicks off their SEC Tourney play tonight as they take on Georgia at 6PM.
