If you don’t think the Writers Guild of America strike is affecting you, yet – maybe this will open your eyeballs!
Drew Barrymorehas dropped out as host of the MTV Movie and TV Awards just days before Sunday’s big show. She decided to pull out in solidarity with striking movie and TV writers. In a statement, Drew said, “I have listened to the writers, and in order to truly respect them, I will pivot from hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards live in solidarity with the strike. Everything we celebrate and honor about movies and television is born out of their creation. And until a solution is reached, I am choosing to wait but I’ll be watching from home and hope you will join me.” MTV says the show will go on — without a host and a script written by Writers Guild of America writers. Jennifer Coolidge would have hosted “SNL” and Foo Fighterswould have performed on the season finale on May 20th according to The Hollywood Reporter, but the last three episodes of the season have been canceled due to the writer’s strike. It would have been the band’s first live appearance since the Taylor Hawkins tribute shows last year.
AI Music: Earlier this week we heard an AI-created Beatles track, which was pretty spot on and good. One thing that AI generated music can do for the music industry, and bands is bring the dead back into the creative conversation by generating the vocal technique and lyric writing of dead band members. The latest attempt at this was with Chester Bennington singing on Slipknot’s ‘Snuff’ and Stone Sour’s ‘Bother’.
Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” became the fastest song to reach 1 BILLION streams in Spotify history.
Ed Sheeran does not have to retire from music. He was found not guilty of plagiarizing Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” in his song, “Thinking Out Loud”. After the verdict, he expressed frustration that the case was allowed to go to court in the first place. The trial caused him to miss his grandmother’s funeral. Ed Sheeran releases his fifth album, called “Subtract“, as well as a documentary on Disney+ two days ago called “The Sum of It All“.

Kevin Hart says his pal Jamie Foxx is “getting better” after three weeks in the hospital. Hart shared the news on the Impaulsive podcast on Wednesday, noting that there has been “a lot of progression” with Jamie’s condition. However, Hart admitted that he doesn’t have “exact details” about the 55-year-old’s condition since he suffered what’s been termed as a “medical emergency” last month. Hart said, “They’re being tight…about where he is because Jamie’s always been a private person to a certain degree.” (Page Six)

Jack Flaherty “sucked” as the Cards lost again. Those were Jack’s words btw. Mama Moon was in attendance as the Los Angeles Angels had 10 runs in less than three innings as the Cardinals lost the series finale and suffered their sixth defeat in a row, 11-7. The Cardinals began the day with the worst record in the NL and will hold that distinction for at least another day as they fell to 10-22. Cards try again against the Tigers at Busch tonight with a start of 715pm
David Freese, a graduate of nearby Lafayette high school whose heroics in the 2011 playoffs helped lift the Cardinals to their 11th World Series in franchise history, was voted in by fans for induction to the 2023 Cardinals Hall of Fame class as the top vote-getter in this year’s Cardinals Hall of Fame ballot. He will be joined in this year’s Cardinals Hall of Fame class by longtime Cardinal and the organization’s current infield instructor Jose Oquendo and two-time World Series-winning pitcher Max Lanier, who spent 12 years as a Cardinal. The Cardinals Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony will be held Aug. 20 at Ballpark Village. We all remember what Freese did just a few years back but don’t forget about Oquendo. He played 10 seasons with the Cardinals after beginning his 12-year playing career with the Mets. The Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, native batted .264 across 989 games with St. Louis and defined himself as one of the game’s most sure-handed fielders. Oquendo’s .9919 fielding percentage in 4,975 innings at second base is second-best all-time at the position among players with a minimum of 500 games played at second base. Oquendo was a coach at the major league level for 18 seasons and was primarily the team’s third base coach. Oquendo was a part of the Cardinals’ coaching staff during their 2006 and 2011 World Series-winning seasons. Lanier was a two-time All-Star and two-time World Series winner as a Cardinal. He won 101 games for St. Louis from 1938 to 1951 and is tied for the 10th-most wins in the franchise’s history. Lanier, who died at the age of 91 in 2007, was a 10-game winner in six seasons and was a part of the club’s 1944 and 1946 World Series-winning teams. He was the winning pitcher in the series-clinching Game 6 in 1944 vs. the St. Louis Browns. www.stltoday.com

Former Team USA track star Tori Bowie was found dead inside her home, TMZ Sports has learned … after her loved ones told cops they were concerned they hadn’t heard from her in several days. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, officers conducted a well-being check at Bowie’s home Tuesday afternoon. When authorities arrived at the residence, they made entry … and found the three-time Olympic medalist deceased. A preliminary investigation showed no foul play was involved. A cause and manner of death are not yet known — the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office tells us they’re still investigating the matter. Bowie — a two-time NCAA long jump champion who won three medals at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil — was just 32 years old.
