As if 2020 wasn’t already enough of a punch in the gut, now we have the unnecessary death of GEORGE FLOYD, a black man who was killed by Minneapolis police officers earlier this week. It’s got a lot of people rattled, to say the least.  One of them is ICE CUBE.  He was supposed to be on “Good Morning America” yesterday to promote a movie, but he bagged on it because he’s still so angry. He Tweeted, quote, “I apologize to everyone expecting to see me on ‘Good Morning America’ today, but after the events in Minnesota with George Floyd I’m in no mood to tell America, good morning.” When someone suggested he should have gone on anyway and talked about it, he replied, quote, “I’m done talking.  These people know right from wrong and they obviously don’t care.  So what we talking about?”

Madonna’s 14-year-old son David Banda honored slain Minneapolis, Minnesota man George Floyd with a dance to Michael Jackson’s “They Don’t Really Care About Us” and his mom uploaded the clip to Twitter with the caption “Brutal murder travels around the world, my son David dances to honor and pay tribute to George… and His Family and all Acts of Racism and Discrimination that happen on a daily basis in America.” Predictably, social media users were both confused and amused. “Madonna really thought a video of her son dancing was what the world needed right now,” said one Twitter user. “I’m nervous that Madonna’s son is gonna stop dancing and racism will come back,” tweeted writer Jensen Karp.

A mainstream music career can be fleeting . . . especially in the COVID-19 era, when you can’t tour.  So, it’s a good idea to have something to fall back on.  And for HALSEY, it’s studying law. She recently posted a photo of a textbook called “Constitutional Law” . . . and said, quote, “Law is fun, but hard.” Well, there was some chatter on Reddit MOCKING her for this . . . and a Twitter user said, quote, “Her ‘studying for bar exams’ schtick tho . . . she ain’t even bought the correct type of books you’d use to study for the bar exam. “Why do all these celebrities want to study for the bar exam all of a sudden?” Halsey did NOT like that.  She responded, quote, “Why the [eff] is it a crime to educate myself beyond just wanting to pass the bar?  I am following a law school curriculum . . .

Led Zeppelin says their 2012 concert movie Celebration Day, the one-off reunion in 2007 and will be available as a “watch party” for a limited time. At London’s O2 Arena on December 10, 2007, it was the band’s first headlining show in 27 years and one of the most wildly anticipated concerts in rock and roll history.  Celebration Day will be available to stream on YouTube starting Saturday, May 30,  until Tuesday, June 2.

Coachella hasn’t officially been canceled, but sources say acts that are scheduled for the festival are being asked to play in 2021 instead.  This year’s headliners are supposed to be Rage Against the Machine, Travis Scott and Frank Ocean. Coachella was originally pushed back from April to October . . . but it’s starting to look like that won’t fly, either.

PAMELA ANDERSON has been married five times, give or take a few.  There are two technicalities in her marital history.  She was LEGIT married to TOMMY LEE and KID ROCK, no question. Then in 2007 she married Rick Salomon, that guy from the PARIS HILTON sex tape.  But she had it annulled a few months later.  So you can technically disqualify that one if you want. But then she married him AGAIN in 2014, and filed for divorce a year later. Then in January, she “married” producer Jon Peters, but they split up 12 days later.  And it turns out they never got legally married in the first place. In a new interview with the “New York Times”, Pamela says she’s not against the idea of getting hitched again.  But she says, quote, “Just one more time.  Just one more time, please, God.  One more time only.  Only!”

The “John Wick” movies have fairly straightforward titles, and there’s a good reason for that:  It’s easy for KEANU REEVES to rememberApparently, the first movie was supposed to be called “Scorn” . . . but Keanu kept forgetting it. The screenwriter says, quote, “The only reason it’s called ‘John Wick’ is that Keanu kept referring to it as ‘John Wick’.  Marketing was like, ‘Dude, that’s four to five million dollars in free advertising so far, so it’s ‘John Wick’ instead of ‘Scorn’.’ “I can’t imagine it being ‘Scorn’ now.” He said the sequel “John Wick: Chapter Two” was also simple . . . it was just something he put in the heading when he was writing the script. The third movie was called “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” . . . and the upcoming fourth movie has the working title “John Wick: Chapter Four”.

The NHL told players on Thursday that the third phase of the league’s plan for live games to return would not take place until at least July 10. That stage of the process is when training camps are supposed to start for teams. This announcement is a slight departure from what was originally said by the league when Gary Bettman’s four-phase plan to have players and teams return to play was first revealed. At the time things were first divulged, the expectation was that Phase 3 would happen before the first half of July. As things stand, the league is still in Phase 1 of the plan, where players and coaches are under a league-mandated quarantine for a couple of weeks. Once that has been successfully completed it would usher in Phase 2, which is a policy that allows for small group workouts. The goal is for that phase to happen as early as next week.

Some NHL awards were given out yesterday.  Since the season was cut short they are awarding those with top stats.  Alex Ovechkin and David Pastrnak will share the Maurice Rocket Richard Trophy as top goal scorers.  Leon Draisaitl won the Art Ross trophy for most points.  The Bruins will be awarded the Presidents Trophy.  And Tuukka Rask and Jaroslav Halak share the William M Jennings Trophy for fewest goals allowed.

There are some new NFL rules…and the onside kick/4th and 15 rule is not one of them.  Some rules that passes yesterday were the permanent use of automatic replay reviews when it comes to touchdowns or turnovers negated by a penalty.  Also – they league agreed on granting more protection to a kickoff or punt returner who is in possession of the ball but has not had time to brace or ward off impact.  Also – a new rule will prevent teams from manipulating the game clock by committing multiple dead  ball fouls while the clock is running.

Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Felipe Vazquez is reportedly facing one count of furnishing pornographic materials to a juvenile. Vazquez is facing the Class A misdemeanor in Missouri after court records from the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office revealed police said Vazquez sent pornographic pictures of himself to a then-15-year-old girl when his team was in St. Louis for a game against the Cardinals. Vazquez was also charged with statutory sexual assault, possession of child pornography and unlawful contact with a minor in Pennsylvania back in September for alleged improper sexual conduct with a then-13-year-old girl. Police also filed charges against him in Florida, where he has another home.  Vazquez has been held in county jail since the arrest.

As the NBA continues to weigh whether or not to resume the 2019-20 season, the consensus among players is not to rush straight into the playoffs as the NHL has agreed to do.  It still remains unclear how many teams would be included in the restart plan or what the format and schedule would look like.  Silver told general managers there will not be a vote on a returning to play during today’s Board of Governors call. In the meantime, teams are preparing to recall players to their market cities to resume club activities and voluntary workouts in accordance with local and federal guidelines.

UFC President Dana White said that he encouraged retired boxer Mike Tyson to stay away from fighting. White added that Tyson has a big fight planned for the future. He said QUOTE: “From what I’m hearing from them, they have something lined up. Something big, and he’s gonna get in there. We talked about it and he said, ‘Listen, I feel that fire in my stomach. I wanna get in there and I wanna mix it up again.'” Who Tyson might fight remains a mystery. Names that have been linked to a Tyson bout include Tyson Fury, Tito Ortiz and Wanderlei Silva.  Evander Holyfield has also said he would be willing to fight Tyson in an exhibition showdown.  Any return to the ring for Tyson would be a huge deal, though it’s fair to question what he has left in the tank. The 53-year-old last fought in 2005, losing to Kevin McBride. Before retiring, he had lost three of his final four fights.

Speaking of the UFC, UFC Fight Night on Saturday features local fighter Tyron Woodley headlining the main card.  You can see the full card posted on the blog but Woodley will take on Gilbert Burns as the main event.  Saturday’s event happens live from Vegas.

Following consecutive heartbreaking losses for Chase Elliott, he finally secured his first NASCAR Cup Series win of the season. Elliott grabbed the checkered flag on Thursday in the Alsco Uniforms 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Cup Series now heads to Bristol Motor Speedway as Food City presents the Supermarket Heroes 500, on Sunday.

Rizz take a snooze…Moon get excited.  June 17th.  The Premier League will return on June 17th with a match featuring Arsenal taking on Manchester City.  One week later, Serie A returns to action.  No fans will be allowed at the games and this is the first time the Premier League will be back in action since it shutdown 3 months ago.

For the first time in the event’s 124-year history, the Boston Marathon has been canceled. Instead, organizers announced that there will be a “virtual event” for participants.

If participants can verify that they ran 26.2 miles on their own, they’ll receive a finisher’s medal much like they normally would. The race was originally scheduled for April 20 before being postponed to Sept. 14 prior to being cancelled yesterday.

In the surest sign yet that live Major League Baseball does not presently live and breathe among us, MLB Network starting at 5:00 a.m. today… is going to air 64 straight hours of Derek Jeter content. The occasion is the 25th anniversary of Jeter’s MLB debut, which occurred on May 29, 1995. He went 0 for 5 in the Yankees’ loss to the Mariners in extra innings.

If live sports return without live fans, what’ll that sound like? Well, an app under development in Japan would pipe in fan reactions to sports venues from the comfort of their own homes. Yamaha’s “Remote Cheerer” system would let at-home fans tap a button to broadcast their boos, cheers and chants where their team is playing. Earlier this month, Yamaha tested the system at Japan’s 50,000-seat Shizuoka Stadium. A Yamaha exec says, “With the possibility of spectator-less matches and restrictions on cheering in mind, I feel that this system will encourage players on the field by making them feel like their fans and supporters are nearby.”
