‘War with Grandpa’ with Robert De Niro was this weekend’s biggest draw at the box office, earning $3.6 million. The movie topped ‘Tenet’, which earned $2.1 million in its sixth week. ‘War with Grandpa’ wasn’t really a box office winner. The movie is the lowest-grossing #1 film debut since 1989. ‘Grandpa’ was supposed to be released in 2018, but plans changed once its producer, Harvey Weinstein, was exposed for being a serial predator. Disney’s re-released ‘Hocus Pocus’ was #3 at the box office, earning $1.2 million.
Looks like 61 year old Simon Cowell will be out of action for up to six months after back surgery and further complications. He is on major pain meds and needs a full time nurse. He will not return to the UK until spring and had been too unwell to record a video message for Britain’s Got Talent live final. Simon is having intensive therapy two months after breaking his back falling from his electric bike. He is walking in his garden and doing pool exercises to improve mobility. He’s had a setback from surgery to fuse two vertebrae and it has proven more complicated than a standard break. He’s also quite vain and the idea of going on national TV with no studio make-up, and while on heavy-duty medication, didn’t appeal. So, unfortunately, he had to decline producers’ requests. Simon has ditched his vegetarian diet in a bid to build his strength and has been emailing via iPad since he has no phone.
Tool’s Maynard James Keenan told AZ Central that he was infected with COVID-19 back in February and is still feeling its awful after-effects. Keenan said COVID caused an “autoimmune attack” leading to inflammation in his hands and wrists. He still has “major coughing fits” because his “lungs are still damaged at the tips”, nearly eight months after his diagnosis. As for those who have politicized mask-wearing, Keenan said: “It’s an absurdity. We wear seatbelts. We don’t smoke in planes…or restaurants. I feel like there’s this twist on the idea of personal freedom…”Freedom is the ability to pursue your lifestyle… “There are compromises that come along with freedom. I’m not sure why that’s so difficult to grasp.” One of his other bands Puscifer will release their newest album, Existential Reckoning, on Oct. 30
Do you remember the dude with multiple “lady friends” from ‘Tiger King’ who changed his name to “God”? Well, we know him as “Doc” Antle and he is facing charges over wildlife trafficking. Antle, who owns Myrtle Beach Zoo and Safari in South Carolina, is being accused of trafficking lion cubs with Keith Wilson, a wildlife park owner in Virginia. The Virginia AG’s office seized 119 animals from Wilson’s park in 2019 over “inadequate care.” That investigation led officials to Antle’s park, who is now facing one felony wildlife trafficking charge and another for conspiracy. Antle, along with his two daughters, are also being charged with 13 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and for violating the Endangered Species Act. Antle says he’s being falsely accused by the State of Virginia in order to appease “animal rights activists that have influence over elected officials.”
Jack White used his musical performance on ‘Saturday Night Live’ to pay tribute to legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen, who died last week after a long battle with throat cancer using a cobalt-blue guitar that was designed by Van Halen himself. He also said he wouldn’t “insult the man’s talent by trying to play one of his songs” on ‘SNL’. Host Bill Burr also showed some love, saying “Rest in peace, Eddie Van Halen” during the show’s close. They also showed Van Halen jamming with blues musician Robert Cray on the ‘SNL’ stage back in 1987.
Comedian BILL BURR hosted “Saturday Night Live” this weekend . . . and now the Internet wants to cancel him over his monologue. Mainly because of his bit about Gay Pride Month saying it was unfair that gay people got June, while Black History Month is February, the shortest month of the year . . . and also one of the most MISERABLE Obviously, a lot of people found that insensitive. He also ragged on cancel culture, and said he was glad that RICK MORANIS got sucker-punched. To be fair… nobody seems to be trying to cancel MICHAEL CHE, even though he told THIS joke during “Weekend Update”: “I’m not gonna say I’m disappointed [that President Trump recovered from the coronavirus], but it kinda feels like when there’s a car crash and the only survivor is the drunk driver.” He added, quote, ” Either Trump’s telling the truth and we finally have a cure for COVID . . .”Or Trump is lying and he’s still gonna die. I’m not gonna say that’s a win-win, but it’s definitely not a lose-lose.” Of course, they tackled the fly on MIKE PENCE’s head during the vice-presidential debate, but they DIDN’T get JEFF GOLDBLUM to play it. Instead, they had JIM CARREY back to play JOE BIDEN. . . who tries to teleport from his home to the debate, but gets turned into the Jeff Goldblum version of the fly. So it was Jim Carrey impersonating Joe Biden impersonating Jeff Goldblum impersonating a fly.

“The Elf on the Shelf”, the Christmas character who watches to make sure kids behave every holiday season was bought by Netflix to develop movies and TV shows . . . both live-action and animated. The content will also feature “Elf Pets” and “Elf Mates.” As part of the deal, they scored the rights to two existing animated movies, “Elf Pets: Santa’s Reindeer Rescue” and “Elf Pets: A Fox Cub’s Christmas Tale”. Those will be on Netflix this coming holiday season . . . but it doesn’t sound like there’s time to have any NEW content available for this year.

Disney’sSpace Mountain is an indoor roller coaster with an outer space theme. It doesn’t have a “plot”, or any characters or “scenes” you can build a plot on, so it makes sense they are making a movie out of it. Good chances are the movie will be very LOOSELY based on the ride. All we know right now is that it’ll be a “family adventure.” It’s intended as a theatrical release . . . and since it’s still in the early stages, theaters MIGHT be a thing again by the time it’s done. Space Mountain was introduced at Disney World in Orlando in 1975. It made its way to Disneyland in California in 1977. It’s now in five of the six Disney parks around the world.
