Chadwick Boseman, the actor best known for portraying superhero Black Panther in the Marvel cinematic universe, died this past Friday at the age of 43. According to a statement on Boseman’s social media accounts, he had been battling colon cancer since 2016. “A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much… during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy,” Boseman got his start when Cosby Show actress Phylicia Rashad discovered him in an acting class at Howard University and arranged for him to study drama at the University of Oxford; Boseman found out later that his study abroad was paid for by Denzel Washington. He was an unknown with mostly TV guest roles to his name when he landed the lead role of barrier-breaking baseball legend Jackie Robinson in the 2013 biopic 42. He then played Godfather of Soul James Brown in Get on Up before taking on the role of Wakandan leader Black Panther. The 2018 Black Panther movie was nominated for Best Picture. Boseman most recently co-starred with Delroy Lindo in Spike Lee’s Vietnam drama Da 5 Bloods earlier this year and will appear alongside Viola Davis in a film adaptation of August Wilson’s stage play Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, which is being produced by Washington.
MTV dedicated its “Video Music Awards” to CHADWICK BOSEMAN last night. Keke Palmer opened with a dedication. LADY GAGA night got Artist of the Year and Song of the Year. She did a 9-minute performance that included a guest appearance from ARIANA GRANDE. . . she got the “Tricon Award” for being a “multidimensional artist”, Gaga was pretty much all over the show. She didn’t get too political, other than telling people to wear a mask because it’s, quote, “a sign of respect.” And she practiced what she preached. She wore a variety of masks throughout the night, as did her band AND Ariana.

Brad Pitt’s new girlfriend, German model Nicole Poturalski, is reportedly married but in an open relationship. The 27-year-old Poturalski has reportedly been married to German restaurateur Roland Mary, 68, for 8 years, and they have a 7-year-old son together. However, a source says that Mary doesn’t mind Pitt’s presence in his wife’s life. “They are still married, but you could describe their relationship as an ‘open marriage,'” adding, “He has been married several times and has five children. He is not interested in negativity or jealousy.” A recent report says Pitt may have met her at the premiere to his movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and they started dating shortly after.
Singer Adele has brought great joy through her songs to millions of people. She took some time off. She was always a bit heavy at least by societal standards and has by all accounts gotten healthy and is in good spirits. Yet people eill immediately roast her for wearing a Jamacian flag bikini top and Bantu Knots which is something typically worn by black women. She was posting about the Notting Hill Carnival postponed due to the pandemic, but usually attracts millions of people to celebrate the British West Indian community. Social media users weren’t pleased. “This is what happens when you invite too many people to the cookout, no more invites,” said one Twitter user. “With all this racial injustice going on Adele thought this was ok?” said another.

Drew Barrymore interviewed Andy Cohen for her new Art of the Interview digital series, and told the host that she “has never forgiven herself” for a boozy interview she did with Cohen on Watch What Happens Live in 2018. Here is the buzzed up interview. Barrymore will launch her own talk show on September 14, distributed by CBS.
It was just a matter of time until I said these words…Nicolas Cage will play a dragon in his next TV project. Ita animated which I am a bit sad to hear. The lead character, which Cage will voice, is a vodka-swilling, TV-loving dragon who lives in seclusion in the Louisiana bayou. Its set, or at least the book it comes from, in a world where dragons once ruled the earth, and Lord Highfire ruled the dragons. Now, however, all he rules is his shack in Honey Island Swamp. He now goes by “Vern” and spends his days hiding out among the alligators, watching cable TV and drinking obscene amounts of vodka. Vern is prepared to do whatever it takes, even if that means violence, to protect his own hide. Vern’s world soon collides with that of Squib, a teenager mixed up in running booze for the local mob, and their mutual struggle for survival becomes entangled in a most unlikely friendship. And recall he will be playing Joe Exotic in a scripted series from CBS
“The X-Files” is coming back. Sort of. It’s being turned into an ANIMATED COMEDY at Fox. It’s not clear if Mulder and Scully will ever appear, but the show’s not about them. It focuses on a “B-team” of misfits who investigate cases that are too ridiculous for the big-time agents. It’ll be called “The X-Files: Albuquerque”.
A new video game called “Airplane Mode” simulates the experience of being an economy class passenger on an airplane. It was in the works before the pandemic hit, but it’s just coming out now. So if you really miss flying, now you can pretend.
The Marvel superhero “New Mutants” took in $7 million in more than 2,400 theaters. And that’s with only about 62% of theaters open . . . and parts of the South being devastated by Hurricane Laura. RUSSELL CROWE’s “Unhinged” made another $2.6 million, after opening with $4 million last weekend. “Bill & Ted Face the Music” earned more than $1 million. It only opened in about 1,000 theaters, and a lot of people probably stayed home to watch it, because it was also available on demand for $20

Sunday afternoon’s game between the Oakland Athletics and Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park has been postponed after a member of the A’s organization tested positive for the coronavirus. The Athletics are the fifth MLB team to have at least one positive COVID-19 test during the season. The Cardinals, Marlins, Mets, and Reds were all shut down anywhere from four days to two weeks with positive tests. The Marlins had the most serious outbreak, with 18 players and 21 total individuals testing positive.
Alex Rodriguez announced Friday that he and fiancee Jennifer Lopez have pulled out of the bidding process to buy the Mets. Rodriguez said despite “a fully funded offer at a record price,” their group was pulling its offer, after reports surfaced that the owners, the Wilpon family, were finalizing a deal with billionaire hedge fund manager Steve Cohen. “Alex and I are so disappointed!!,” Lopez wrote on Twitter, adding, “We still haven’t given up!”
Over in the NHL, the Stars beat the Avalanche 5-4 to go up 3-1 in that series. The Islanders took a 3-1 series lead after beating the Flyers and the Golden Knights won 5-3 to go up 3-1 in their series. Today, the Bruins have a chance to eliminate the Lightning and the Stars can knock out the Avs.
Yester in the NBA, the Celtics took a 1-0 series lead against the Raptors in the Eastern Conference Semi Finals. The Clippers knocked out the Mavs with a 111-97 win. And the Nuggets keep their hopes alive with a 119-107 win against the Jazz.
Speaking of the Nuggets…Jamal Murray is 23 years old. This is his fourth NBA season, and his second postseason. Murray hung 50 points on the Utah Jazz on Sunday as the Nuggets won Game 6, 119-107, to force Game 7 on Tuesday. It marks the third straight playoff game in which Murray, who dropped 42 points in Game 5 and another 50 spot in Game 4, has scored at least 40 points; the last player to do that was Allen Iverson in 2001. Do the math, and Murray has scored 142 total points over these last three games. Only Jerry West in 1965 and Michael Jordan in 1988 have ever scored more than that over three consecutive playoff games. Now we wait to see what he does in game 7.
Nine Auburn football players have tested positive for COVID-19, with another seven away from the team after being deemed high-risk. Oklahoma had a similar issue earlier in the week, with their head coach telling reporters all but one member of a specific position group had been forced to step away momentarily because of COVID-19 protocols.
Tight end Jordan Reed suffered a seventh documented concussion last August and did not play during the 2019 campaign while on the Washington Football Team, which he said led him to consider retirement. “I definitely thought about hanging it up after last season. But it was when I watched the Super Bowl is what really ignited me again. I want to play in those big games. I love the game of football. I still have the drive to keep playing.” Reed is now with the San Francisco 49ers, who played in that Super Bowl.
Dustin Johnson forced a playoff at the end of the BMW Championship with Jon Rahm after DJ hit a 43-foot birdie putt on No. 18. Rahm, who opened the BMW Championship with a five-over 75 on Thursday and 71 on Friday, was a different player over the weekend. He went into the clubhouse with a one-stroke lead, but Johnson almost spoiled his day. Trailing by a single stroke on No. 18, Johnson hit a 43-foot putt for birdie to force a playoff. Not to be outdone, Rahm hit a 66-foot birdie putt—yes, you read that right—to win the tournament on the first playoff hole. With the win, Rahm—currently No. 2 in the Official World Golf Ranking, behind Johnson—heads into next weekend’s Tour Championship two strokes behind the man he beat Sunday. With his +11 finish, Tiger Woods was eliminated from the Tour Championship.
Lionel Messi could be headed to Manchester City, but it won’t come cheap. The Premier League giants are preparing a five-year, $893 MILLION DOLLAR deal. The reported details are as follows: “The report says this contract will be split into two periods—three years with City in the Premier League and two years with sister club New York City in MLS.” Manchester City are the favorites to land the Argentine superstar if he’s allowed to leave Barcelona. PSG is also in the running with Messi’s former teammate Neymar reportedly recruiting him to the Champions League runners-up. And there remains the possibility that Messi could be forced into staying. More than likely, Messi’s time in Barcelona is over.
And finally – this weekend was the Bommarito Automotive Group 500. In race 1 on Saturday, Scott Dixon got the win over Indy 500 winner Taku Sato. On the second day of racing, Josef Newgarden took home the win under yellow for his second win the year.
