I hate to start off with a death but passing away yesterday, not sure anyone heard about this but Quibi died. They have shut the doors and whatever money they can they will return to investors. Quibi had raised about $2 billion dollars aiming at enterainment for teens and younger adults in a mostly short 10 minute form and mostly on the phone. It launched during the pandemic and short forms of entertainment for the younger crowd is had for free on tik tok. This is a Jeffrey Katzenburg thing and apparently he has been trying to sell off the content to other streamers for the last few weeks. In the first 3 days after launch just over 900,00 people downloaded Quibi but only 72,000 converted to the pay version.

RUDY GIULIANI has some spinning to do after a not so great scene in the upcoming “Borat” sequel. Rudy agreed to be interviewed in a hotel room by what he thought was a conservative news outlet.  But the interviewer was really the actress portraying Borat’s daughter in the film. After the interview, she suggests they go into the bedroom for a drink.  She removes Rudy’s microphone, after which Rudy lays back on the bed and puts his HAND DOWN HIS PANTS. At that point, Borat bursts into the room in lingerie and yells, “She’s 15!  She’s too old for you!” You might recall that the scene was filmed back in July, because after it happened, Rudy called the cops.  In a radio interview, he said he was NOT reaching into his pants. The movie hits Amazon tomorrow.

Maybe this calls for a carb load… The Tom Petty tribute concert this Friday will be about 5 hours long with Foo Fighters, Lenny Kravitz and Beck and a few more set for the livestream concert. Also, Eddie Vedder and  Stevie Nicks will also perform. It would have been Petty’s 70th birthday.  Adam Sandler will make an appearance, too. Starts at 10pm central at

Miley is working on a METALLICA covers album.  For real. Cyrus has covered Metallica before, performing “Nothing Else Matters” at 2019’s Glastonbury Festival. Before Glastonbury, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said “he was “stunned by” Cyrus’ performance at the ‘I Am The Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell’ concert.  He called her performance of Temple of The Dog’s “Say Hello 2 Heaven” “next level.”

A new season of David Letterman’s “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction” began streaming on Netflix yesterday.  In the first episode, he talks to Kim Kardashian about both of her fathers, asking Trump to pardon prisoners, and when she was attacked in her French hotel room.  She got emotional and cried telling the story.

During a radio appearance in 1997, the Notorious B.I.G. did a freestyle rap about Pepsi . . . and Pepsi just made a commercial out of it.

MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY spent the early 2000s making romantic comedies . . . like “The Wedding Planner”, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”, “Failure to Launch”, “Fool’s Gold”, and “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past”. And in 2010, he was over it and turned down $14.5 million to do another. In his new memoir “Greenlights”, he said, quote, ” I’d taken the baton from Hugh Grant, and I ran with it.” But then done…Quote, “I declined [a $14.5 million] offer.  If I couldn’t do what I wanted, I wasn’t going to do what I didn’t, no matter the price.”  He didn’t say what movie it was. More sobering news…he was “blackmailed” into losing his virginity when he was 15.  He didn’t elaborate. And he said that when he was 18, he was “molested by a man . . . while unconscious in the back of a van.”  He didn’t provide any details on that story either, but he did say that he’s, quote, “never felt like a victim.”

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is being pushed date back three months to June 11, 2021. So far, it has the date to itself. It was scheduled for March of 2021 after an initial delay of July 2020.

MGM is pushing the theatrical release for Legally Blonde 3 to May 2022. It was intitally supposed to drop February 14th 2020.

JARED LETO’s Joker is getting some JUSTICE in director Zack Snyder’s new cut of “Justice League”. Snyder had to leave the film due to the death of his daughter, and was replaced by Joss Whedon.  But now he’s shooting new footage in order to remake the movie into what he originally intended.  It’ll air on HBO Max. Anyway, Leto wasn’t even in the original version of “Justice League”, but he’s been called in to play the Joker in some new scenes. Jared played the Joker in “Suicide Squad”, which was tied to “Justice League” thanks to an appearance by BEN AFFLECK’s Batman.

The “Fast & Furious” movies have been a major attraction at the box office for almost 20 years . . . but it’s coming to an end . . . eventually. “Variety” says Universal is ending the franchise after two more movies, the 10th and the 11th.  But there will actually be THREE more . . . because the ninth movie, “F9”, has been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which is scheduled to come out on May 28th of next year. There are no other details on the 10th and 11th movies. This may be crushing news to “Fast & Furious” super-fans, but this is only for the core series.  The “Fast & Furious” cinematic universe will continue through spin-offs, and there are already some in the works.

It’s been 43 years since the first “Smokey and the Bandit” movie came out . . . and now it’s being revived as a TV show. No network is attached yet . . . but it’s being developed by Seth MacFarlane from “Family Guy”, along with David Gordon Green, Danny McBride, and the creative team who worked on the HBO show “Eastbound & Down”. Which is interesting, since that title seems to have been inspired by the “Smokey and the Bandit” theme song, which is also called “East Bound and Down“. It’s unclear if the show will have any formal connections to the movie, especially since it’s been so long since it came out.  Burt Reynolds passed away in 2018, and Jackie Gleason, Jerry Reed, Pat McCormick, and “Fred” the Basset Hound are no longer with us.  Of course, Sally Field is still around.

A TV show based on the 1983 movie “Flashdance” is in development for the upcoming streaming service Paramount+. If you haven’t heard, CBS All Access will become Paramount+ next year. One of the original producers is onboard for the revival . . . but it’s unclear if any of the old cast members will be involved.  They’ve also made an interesting alteration to the story. Instead of a WELDER who dreams of being a dancer, like in the original, we get a STRIPPER who dreams of being a ballet dancer. went through the films of our greatest actors and actresses, and added up how much time they spent NAKED.

The Tampa Bay Rays evened the World Series with the Dodgers last night, one game a piece, thanks to two home runs from Brandon Lowe.  Here they are.

It took the Los Angeles Dodgers seven pitchers to lose 6-4 to even the World Series at a game apiece. Their dominant offense was no-hit into the fifth before rallying. Four runs would have been enough to win Game 1 when Clayton Kershaw was on the mound. On Wednesday they trailed the Tampa Bay Rays the entire time. It was the pitching, and the pitching strategy, that failed them. The 2020 regular season featured a huge jump in the percentage of games in which no pitcher threw more than three innings. That trend has continued into the postseason, exacerbated by a schedule that eliminated off days from the Division Series and Championship Series

The opening game of the World Series on Tuesday made history — and in terms of TV viewership. Game One of the Dodgers’ series against the Tampa Bay Rays attracted 9.1 million viewers, which was the most watched program on Tuesday but also became the least-watched World Series game ever — or at least since Nielsen began tracking ratings in 1968. The last time viewership dipped below 10 million for a World Series contest came was Game 3 in 2008 when the Rays played the Philadelphia Phillies (9.8 million viewers). That game was affected by a 90-minute rain delay.

The World Series takes a break tonight, but there IS Thursday Night Football, and it’s a real crap shoot.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. had a health scare going into Week 6. Beckham missed two days of practice due to an illness, and since this is 2020, that led to concern Beckham could be dealing with COVID-19. That wasn’t the case. Beckham tested negative for coronavirus multiple times and eventually played in the Brown’s 38-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He finished the game with 2 catches for 25 yards. Beckham was asked whether he was concerned he had COVID-19, and responded by saying he didn’t think the virus could get to him. “I don’t think COVID can get to me,” Beckham said. “I don’t think it’s going to enter this body. I don’t want no parts of it. It don’t want no parts of me. It’s a mutual respect.” That’s not how the virus works. It’s not going to be magically repelled by Beckham just because he’s different.  After a rough loss to the Steelers, Beckham and the Browns will hope to bounce back when the team takes on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 7.

Don’t forget to make your picks. You don’t want to be a Jamie.

California will let fans back in outdoor stadiums for pro sporting events in counties with low coronavirus infection rates, the state’s top health official said Tuesday. San Francisco and neighboring Alameda and Santa Clara are the only counties that meet the threshold for pro sports. However, immediately after the announcement, officials in Santa Clara, home to the San Francisco 49ers, issued a statement saying they weren’t prepared to allow even a limited number of fans into Levi’s Stadium. As many as 14,000 people could attend Levi’s Stadium events under the state’s guidance

Being outdoors isn’t enough to guarantee the virus won’t spread, he said, because fans would be using the same restrooms and same doors to enter and leave the stadium, while screaming and yelling during the game. The 49ers said the team welcomed the news from the state but “will continue to collaborate with local public health officials to implement a plan that ensures a plan that protects the health and wellness” of the team, its employees and the public.

Under the state rules, pro sports teams could have limited capacity at outdoor stadiums if they are in a county in the lowest two levels of the state’s four-tiered model for reopening. Only fans who live within a 120-mile radius may buy tickets.

Dr. Mark Ghaly, the state health secretary, said the goal for sporting events is to keep the crowds small and regional, without allowing visitors to swarm in from other areas and increase the risk of exposure and spread of the pandemic. No county in Southern California has reached those tiers, so fans of the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and Chargers are still on the sidelines. San Francisco is the first highly populated county to move into the state’s lowest tier for infections. All the other counties at that level are rural areas scattered near the Oregon border or in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

Tokyo Olympics organisers wrapped up three days of tests on Wednesday, trialling a number of security and COVID-19 countermeasures and asking supporters and officials to pack less to wait less when entering venues during the Games. During the tests at Tokyo Big Sight, a convention centre that will host media during the postponed Games next year, organisers assessed various technologies to monitor body temperatures of spectators. As seen at other sporting events during the global pandemic, thermology cameras and non-contact infrared thermometers were used but organisers also tested the use of ‘thermometer strips’. The strips, which were pasted onto the wrists of volunteers being used in the trial, contain heat-sensitive liquid crystals and can immediately detect if the wearer has a fever. Another key element of the field test was checking how smoothly spectators can pass through the inspection area while other measures, such as social distancing in queues, are being enforced. Volunteers presented security personnel with more than 40 different scenarios, including forgetting to wear a mask and trying to bring an aerosol can through security, to test their readiness for the Games.
