Twenty One Pilots have premiered a new, original holiday song, “Christmas Saves the Year.”
“Everybody wants to make it home this year/Even if the world is crumbling down,” sings vocalist Tyler Joseph over a seasonally appropriate beat. You can listen to the track now via digital outlets, and watch its accompanying video streaming now on YouTube.
“Christmas Saves the Year” is the second Twenty One Pilots song of 2020, following their quarantine jam “Level of Concern.” It dropped following Joseph’s Fortnite charity stream Tuesday night, which also featured drummer Josh Dun, and the duo’s respective wives, Jenna Joseph and Debby Ryan.
Also during the stream, Joseph took a moment to apologize for his controversial “platform” tweet. In September, Joseph tweeted a photo of him wearing platform shoes in apparent response to fans asking him to use his metaphorical platform as a famous musician to speak up in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Joseph did apologize at the time, writing that he did indeed support Black Lives Matter, but also added that he was “doubling down” on the platform pun, declaring it to be “fantastic.”
During Tuesday’s stream, Joseph said, “I want to take the opportunity, the moment, to apologize and say that I’m sorry.”
“It was wrong, and I shouldn’t have done it,” he added. “I see now how it could’ve hurt some people, and it did hurt people.”
