Tom Morello has released a new song called “Driving to Texas,” a track off the Rage Against the Machine guitarist’s upcoming solo album, The Atlas Underground Fire.
The tune is a collaboration with Phantogram, and, for the most part, sounds like the dreamy, electronic-tinged music you’d find on the duo’s own albums. Eventually, though, it builds to a wailing, quintessential Morello guitar solo at the end.
“This song is creepy as hell –a dark journey, a struggle for a tortured soul,” Morello says. “The guitar solo needed to feel like a vengeful angel who has come down to decide the fate of the protagonist. Will they descend into the abyss or will they find redemption?”
You can download “Driving to Texas” now via digital outlets.
“Driving to Texas” is the second song to be released from The Atlas Underground Fire, following Morello’s cover of AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell” with Pearl Jam‘s Eddie Vedder and Bruce Springsteen. The whole album, which also features collaborations with artists including Bring Me the Horizon and grandson, is due out October 15.
