In addition to the countless collaborations Tom Morello has released over the years, he’s got another one in the vault with a pretty big-name artist.

During an interview with The Allison Hagendorf Show, the Rage Against the Machine guitarist reveals that he recorded a song with Post Malone about four years ago.

“We worked on a pretty sick jam that, to me, felt like could be for [Post], his ‘Beat It,'” Morello shares. “You know when Michael Jackson, a big pop star, paired with Eddie Van Halen and made something that no one had expected? I was, like, ‘This could be your ‘Beat It,’ dude.'”

As for why the track hasn’t yet seen the light of day, Morello says the ball is in Post’s court.

“He just won’t finish the song,” Morello says of the “Circles” artist. “I see him from time to time, I’m, like, ‘You’re still dropping the ball on that one.’ He’s, like, ‘Yeah man, I know, I’m gonna do that.’ I’m, like, ‘OK.'”

Post has previously collaborated with rock artists, including Red Hot Chili Peppers and Ozzy Osbourne, and memorably performed a Nirvana cover set during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
