At Sunday night’s Academy Awards, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert won the Best Director and Best Original Screenplay Oscars for directing and writing the mind-bending multiverse movie Everything Everywhere All at Once, which was also named Best Picture. But did you know that The Daniels got their start directing music videos for some of your favorite artists?

The duo started their music video career in 2011, helming the clips for Manchester Orchestra‘s “Simple Math,” and Foster the People‘s “Houdini” and “Don’t Stop (Color on the Walls).” The “Houdini” clip earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Short Form Music Video.

In 2012, they directed the videos for The Shins‘ “Simple Song” and Tenacious D‘s “Rize of the Fenix,” and in 2013, the video for Passion Pit‘s “Cry Like a Ghost” and DJ Snake‘s “Turn Down for What.” The latter clip earned them a second Grammy nomination.

In 2014, they directed the video for “Tongues” by Joywave, and in 2017, the same year they announced Everything Everywhere All at Once, they did two more clips for Manchester Orchestra: “The Sunshine” and “The Alien.”

Everything Everywhere All at Once was The Daniels’ second feature film. Their first was the equally wacky Swiss Army Man, starring Paul Dano as a man stranded on a desert island who finds and befriends Daniel Radcliffe‘s corpse.
