Switchfoot has released a new song called “California Christmas,” an original track off the band’s upcoming holiday compilation, this is our Christmas album.

“I’ve had the privilege of celebrating the holidays in a lot of different places — Boston, Detroit, Nashville, Virginia — but there is truly nothing like a California Christmas,” says frontman Jon Foreman, who hails from San Diego.

“All the classic American Christmas songs sing about snowmen and chestnuts on warm fires,” Foreman continues. “As much as I love nostalgia, I wanted a song that captured the idiosyncrasies of San Diego during December. When I’m home for the holidays I’ve got sunshine, tamales, surf sessions and a Christmas tree at the beach.”

Fittingly, “California Christmas” is accompanied by a video filled with crashing surfers, which is streaming now on YouTube.

this is our Christmas album, which includes a collection of holiday standards, as well as original songs, will be released November 4. Switchfoot will embark on a Christmas-themed tour in November.
