Supergroup featuring members of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Coldplay to perform at Will Ferrell’s benefit
Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith will lead a one-off supergroup called Chad Smith’s Super Mega Funktastic Jam Rock All Stars at a charity event on October 6th at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.
The band will feature Coldplay singer Chris Martin, Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, and Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan.
The event is dubbed “Will Ferrell’s Best Night of Your Life” and will be hosted by Ferrell. The actor and Smith have turned their uncanny resemblance to each other into a running joke that has also served as the springboard for a number of charity events. Along with Smith’s all-star band, comedians confirmed to take part in the festivities include Jerry Seinfeld, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien, Samantha Bee, Michelle Wolf and Kumail Nanjiani.
Tickets go on sale Friday (September 21st) at 10:00 am local time and all proceeds will benefit Cancer For College, which provides college scholarships to low-income, high-achieving cancer survivors.

- Smith and Ferrell had been mistaken for each other for years, finally staging a “drum-off” on The Tonight Show in 2014 to determine which one of them was the real Smith.
- That battle helped raise nearly $500,000 for charities chosen by both men.
- Smith recently said that the Chili Peppers will begin work soon on a new studio album.
