The drummer of the Grammy-winning band Alabama Shakes has been accused of child abuse.  

Rolling Stone reports that Steven William Johnson was arrested Wednesday and now faces a slew of charges including torture and abuse of a child.

The 35-year-old drummer’s bail was set at $21,500 and he was taken to Alabama’s Limestone County Jail.  His arraignment is scheduled for April 7.

The report says Johnson was indicted on willful torture, willful abuse and cruelly beating/willfully maltreating a child under 18.

This isn’t the first time Johnson found himself on the wrong side of the law.  A report from WHNT found in 2019, he was arrested on a misdemeanor charge for violating his ex-wife’s protective order.  His former spouse claims that he abused her following their divorce the year prior, accusing him of stalking, choking, threatening and harassing her.

WHNT says, as a result of that incident, he was sentenced to 24 months of probation on top of a suspended sentence of a year in prison.

The two had been married for three and a half years.

A spokesperson for Alabama Shakes has not responded for request for comment regarding Johnson’s most recent incident.

The “Hold On” band has been hiatus since 2018 when frontwoman Brittany Howard took interest in pursuing a solo career.
