Slipknot has started writing new music, according to percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan.

Clown revealed the news during a recent livestream promoting Slipknot’s signature whiskey.

“Since everybody’s taken a lot of time off [due to the COVID-19 pandemic], we thought we’d utilize it by getting together and do what we probably do best, which is write music,” he said.

Having taken a five-year break between their last two albums, 2019’s We Are Not Your Kind and 2014’s .5: The Gray Chapter, to have new music in the works already is a bit ahead of schedule for Slipknot. However, Clown explains that he and his band mates aren’t feeling any “pressure.”

“It’s not like we have to [write new music],” Clown says. “We’re doing it ’cause we want to.”

“It’s just been a blessing, because boredom can set in,’ he adds. “I know all of us in the world are going crazy, so we’re really lucky to be able to be together and do what we love most.”
