Slipknot’s latest album, We Are Not Your Kind, is on track to become the band’s first # 1 in the United Kingdom in 18 years. The last time it happened was in September of 2001 when the group’s breakthrough LP Iowa topped the charts. Their last 4 albums there have reached top 5.

Singer Corey Taylor recently stated that the album features the “darkest” lyrics he has written “in a long time.” Calling it “heavy” and “experimental.” He explained, “I went through a really dark period, and it fueled all of my lyrics for this album, all of my emotions for this album. The shirking the chains of that depression, negativity, trying to get rid of that.”

COMING UP: Don’t miss a Point BIG Summer Show with Slipknot and Volbeat this Sunday (August 18th) at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre

We Are Not Your Kind is currently 13,000 chart sales ahead of Ed Sheeran’s No.6 Collaborations Project

SIDE NOTES

  • “We Are Not Your Kind” was once again recorded at a Los Angeles studio with producer Greg Fidelman, who engineered and mixed their 2004 album Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) and helmed 2014’s .5: The Gray Chapter.
  • Earlier this year, Taylor told the Des Moines Register that some of the album was written while he was forced to “figure out who he was” following his recent divorce, without relapsing into substance abuse.
  • It was released on August 9 via Roadrunner Records.
  • In an interview with BBC Radio, Taylor said that Slipknot’s new album is “probably the furthest we’ve pushed the boundaries of creativity and experimentation, while also not losing our identity.
