SEVENDUST DRUMMER: CHRIS DAUGHTRY IS ‘ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS’
Sevendust has begun streaming the song “Prodigal Son” at the band’s official MySpace page. The track is the first single from the group’s upcoming album, Chapter VII: Hope and Sorrow, due out on April 1st. The disc features several guests, including American Idol runner-up Chris Daughtry. Sevendust drummer Morgan Rose told us he’s proud to have Daughtry on the record: “He’s one of my best friends in the world, he’s a phenomenal singer, he sounds great on the song, and to have one of my best friends sitting on the record, in the room with me, singing a song that I wrote, is something special. That dude was in the front row in North Carolina in a little club that we were playing seven years ago, singing every song, before he was years away from going to American Idol.”
Daughtry sings on a track called “The Past.” Other guests on the album are singer Myles Kennedy and guitarist Mark Tremonti from Alter Bridge.
Following his exit from American Idol, Daughtry and his band recorded their self-titled debut album, which has sold three million copies and has become one of the show’s biggest success stories.
Sevendust opens three shows in Australia for Ozzy Osbourne in mid-March, before coming home to the U.S. for a spring headlining run of its own. After that the band will join Slipknot, Disturbed and others on this summer’s inaugural Rockstar Energy Mayhem tour, which starts on July 9th in Seattle.
