Mumford & Sons started trending on Twitter over the weekend after guitarist and banjo player Winston Marshall tweeted his support for controversial right-wing figure Andy Ngo.
In the tweet, which has since been deleted, Marshall congratulated Ngo on the release of his new book, which is titled Unmasked: Inside Antifa’s Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy.
“Finally had time to read your important book,” Marshall wrote. “You’re a brave man.”
Marshall’s comments were met with comments from fans and non-fans alike, who responded with tweets including, “The whole world learning that Mumford & Sons are fascist sympathizers is the best thing to happen to Nickelback in years.”
Back in 2018, Mumford & Sons members Marshall, Ben Lovett and Ted Dwane posed for a photo with the similarly controversial conservative figure Jordan Peterson.
