Metallica will officially celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2021, but drummer Lars Ulrich doesn’t see the band slowing down any time soon.
“In Metallica we love the creative process,” Ulrich tells Classic Rock magazine. “It’s hard for me to imagine that we’ll ever stop making records.”
As work begins on the next Metallica album — Ulrich told Rolling Stone in November that the group is “three, four weeks into some pretty serious writing” — the metal legends aren’t planning to rest on past success.
“It’s the heaviest thing, the coolest,” Ulrich says. “But all kidding aside, if it wasn’t because we thought that the best record was still ahead of us, then why keep doing it?”
Metallica’s most recent album is 2016’s Hardwired…to Self-Destruct.
