Phoebe Bridgers has released her cover of Metallica‘s “Nothing Else Matters” for the upcoming Metallica Blacklist tribute album.

The intimate, string-adorned performance could fit easily on either of the “Kyoto” singer’s own records, while also carrying an intensity befitting of the original.

“I feel like my version almost sounds Baroque,” Bridgers tells Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1. “Literally, James [Hetfield] does all sorts of weird octave jumps and stuff that I can’t do, and I almost have a Billie Eilish approach of right by the microphone, performing it the opposite of them, which was really fun to lean into.”

Bridgers adds that she’s a big Metallica fan, which may remember from her conversation from Lars Ulrich for a 2020 Rolling Stone piece.

You can download Bridgers’ version of “Nothing Else Matters” now via digital outlets. The Metallica Blacklist, which includes 53 artists covering each song off Metallica’s iconic Black Album in honor of its upcoming 30th anniversary, is due out September 10.

Metallica is also released a 30th anniversary deluxe reissue of The Black Album on September 10.
