Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich hinted in a new interview with Kerrang! magazine that the band could have a sequel to its 1998 collection Garage Inc. in the works.

Answering questions submitted by fans, Ulrich was asked which songs the band would cover if there was another Garage Inc. album. Ulrich responded tersely, “Wait and see.”

Metallica’s “garage” series of cover songs began with the The $5.98 E.P.: Garage Days Re-Revisited, which saw the band covering Killing Joke, the Misfits, Budgie and Diamond Head. It had previously covered “Am I Evil?” by Diamond Head and “Blitzkrieg” by Blitzkrieg on the Creeping Death 12-inch in 1984.

The Garage Inc. album collected all that material, other rare covers, plus freshly recorded renditions of songs by Discharge, Bob Seger, Black Sabbath, Diamond Head, Blue Oyster Cult and an arrangement of the traditional “Whiskey In The Jar.” It was the last album to feature Jason Newsted on bass before he quit in 2001.

If the band does record a new Garage Inc. set, it would likely arrive before the band’s next collection of all-original songs.
