Lana Del Rey clarified the comments she made in the wake of the violent pro-Trump riot at the D.C. Capitol.  Fans lambasted the singer for suggesting President Donald Trump wasn’t aware that his comments pushed his supporters toward violence.

Del Rey made the controversial remark during Monday’s BBC 1’s Future Sounds podcast.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, the “Summertime Sadness” singer clarified her statement, saying she believes “Trump is so significantly impaired that he may not know what he was doing due to his significant lack of empathy.”

“The wider ranging problem is the issue of sociopathy and narcissism in America,” the Grammy-nominee furthered.

“I don’t appreciate the larger magazines taking my well-intentioned and, believe it or not, liberal comments out of context,” Del Rey continued in another tweet before chastising the publications who, she says, twisted her words.

The 35-year-old singer further defended her comments in a video, which she posted Tuesday of herself saying, “When someone is so deeply deficient in empathy, they may not know that they’re the bad guy.  That may be a controversial opinion but don’t make the controversy that I don’t think that he meant to incite a riot. It’s not the point.”

Del Rey added that the “narcissism reflected in our government” is having a negative affect on society, pointing out that the nation is grappling with a rise in domestic violence.

“We’ve seen violence within the household increase 300-fold throughout every county in America,” the singer noted.  “911 calls going up 300 percent because of issues of delusions of grandeur between one partner [and] another and the violence that stems from that.”

The Safe Center, a domestic violence resource center, says there’s been a dramatic increase of domestic violence during the COVID-19 pandemic.
