Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger said in a new interview with Donny Fandango backstage at the Point’s Big Summer Show on Tuesday (August 1st) that the title of the new Incubus record 8 speaks to their longevity as a band: “Most bands don’t even get around to making an 8th album and for us it was just kind of like a statement to our longevity as a band. And not from a place of arrogance in any way, from just a place of humility that we are still here in 2017 putting out new music and touring.” He went on to say, “We’ve seen countless bands come and go, and trends, and changes in the music industry and all these different things that have killed the careers of many people and we’re just really lucky and feel very fortunate to be able to be here and doing what we are doing.”

Einziger goes on to talk about the band’s struggles over the past 25+ years as a band. “It doesn’t matter if you are the Foo Fighters or if you are the Red Hot Chili Peppers…bands that have been around for a long time have just figured out how to navigate the ups and downs of going through changes…we’re no different.” Talking about his appreciation for bands that have figured out how to stay together long term, Einziger says “Any group of artists that is able to stick together and do what they do over a long period of time, that is an accomplishment.”
