U2 STILL PLANS TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM BEFORE YEAR'S END

U2 apparently still plans to release a new album in 2014 and may even get the thing out as early as next month, according to Rolling Stone. Although the Irish superstars have been working on various versions of a new studio record for the past few years, reports from earlier this year indicated that they planned to push back its release to 2015. Now, however, a spokesperson for the band stated, "We've always said an album is expected this year."

The quartet reportedly filmed a video in France last month, and two South American branches of their record label, Universal Music, announced that a new album would arrive in September.

The Irish Times quoted a source as saying that a single will arrive next month, a full album in either September or October, and tour dates will be announced in December for a trek that will begin next April.

The article added, "The band will release (the new album) with little of the fanfare usually associated with a new U2 album."

It did seem like the follow-up to 2009's No Line On The Horizon was coming out earlier this year, when the band premiered a new song called "Invisible" in a Super Bowl commercial, performed it on The Tonight Show and made it available for free on iTunes.

But the single faded from the charts fairly quickly, along with the expectation of the album coming soon on its heels.

The group has been working on its 13th studio album for parts of the last five years with at least six different producers. Guitarist The Edge told Rolling Stone, "We really want the songs to be right."
