Haven't heard of Stellastarr*? You might soon. It is only now, after touring with greats like Jane's Addiction and Placebo, that the group's single, "My Coco," has inched its way onto Alternative charts. Based on what they told a reporter from The Oregonian, they got there the old-fashioned way -- through constant touring. Though it's a slower route to recognition than most bands take, drummer Arthur Kremer explains, "It's how we wanted to do it. Our album came out in September (2003), and we're only now going to radio. We just wanted to tour and build something solid."

The band also told about one happy accident that has helped them hone their stage presence -- meeting television producer Jason Dolan. And that's one art they'll need this summer, since they're appearing at venues and various festivals throughout U.S. and Europe through July.

Dolan videotaped every Stellastarr* show and let the band watch the tape. Kremer said watching videos of their performances "Was a real eye-opener" and guitarist Michael Jurin said the group would "Sit there and want to cringe and be like, 'Oh my God, we're so stiff, we don't move!' Or, 'That's a ridiculous thing we do right there.'"

Summer tour dates for Stellastarr* in the U.S. are as follows:
June 2nd - Liquid Blue - Portland, ME
June 10th - Belly Up Tavern - San Diego
June 13th - The Coach House - Santa Barbara, CA
June 17th - Harrah's Outdoor Pavilion - Reno, NV
June 19th - City Stages - Birmingham, AL

With The Von Bondies, Violent Femmes and The Rapture:
June 3rd - WFNX Presents Best Music Poll 2004 - Boston, MA

With The Stone Poney, Sonic Youth, and Patty Smith:
June 6th - The Great Bamboozle - Asbury Park, NJ

The band will play a number of European tour dates, including the Glastonbury Festival in England, before returning to their hometown of New York City to play in Central Park July 23rd with Devo and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
