SINGER SAYS MUDVAYNE IS NOT OVER YET

Hellyeah frontman Chad Gray has told Revolver magazine in a new interview that his other band, Mudvayne, is not dead yet despite a hiatus of more than four years and the recent dismissal of Mudvayne guitarist Greg Tribbett from the Hellyeah lineup. Asked if this meant that Mudvayne was officially over, Gray replied, "I don't think so. We all still talk. I'm not ready to put a headstone on anything yet."

Gray did admit that Tribbett's firing from Hellyeah, shortly before the recording of the band's new Blood For Blood album, was hard on him. He explained, "He has always been my right-hand man . . . When everything went sideways, it was like losing a great friend. I was filled with fear and I had mixed emotions. At first, I was like, G****mn, I don't know if I'm ever gonna be able to do this without him."

Mudvayne posted a message on Facebook last March indicating that the band was still in existence, writing, "With respect to all the bandmembers, we are all doing something in music that satisfies our appetite right now. When the time is right, Mudvayne WILL be back in action."

Gray told us a while back what set Mudvayne and Hellyeah apart for him: "It's two different sides of ourselves. It's like, you know, putting all this baggage on one side of me and putting all this baggage on another side of me, just cutting it down the middle and going -- it's literally just different hemispheres of, like, your brain. There's different levels of creativity in each one. They just feel different. They're like apples and oranges. They both taste good, but there's a different feel, a different flavor."

In a 2010 interview, bassist Ryan Martinie discussed Mudvayne almost entirely in the past tense, saying, "We are a piece of musical history now."

Mudvayne did not tour behind its self-titled fifth album, which was barely promoted and sold weakly upon release in 2009.
