Arctic Monkeys intend to release their long-awaited sixth studio album in 2018, according to bassist Nick O'Malley. In an interview with For The Ride, O'Malley confirmed that the British quartet began recording its new LP earlier this month at a secret location. He insisted that it's coming out next year, adding, "If it isn’t, we’ve got problems."
The last Arctic Monkeys CD, AM, came out in 2013. Their fifth album, it was their biggest hit yet in the U.S. and featured the chart-topping "Do I Wanna Know?"
- Rumors of the band heading back to the studio first emerged back in the summer of 2016, although frontman Alex Turner said at the time that there were no set plans to record yet, adding, "There will be at some point. I mean, we’ll see with that. No rush.”
- Turner was busy last year with his side project, The Last Shadow Puppets, which issued its second album, Everything You've Come To Expect, in March 2016.
- Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders spent some time touring as part of Iggy Pop's backup band.
