The SLU Billikens lost last night 65-51 to Western Michigan. It’s been a rough 3 games for the Billikens after going 4-0 to open up the season. Their next game is Saturday against Butler. The Tigers are coming off of a loss to West Virginia on Sunday and play UCF tomorrow night.
The New York Giants made the surprise announcement yesterday that they are benching quarterback Eli Manning, who won't be starting for the team for the first time in more than 13 years. The Giants, who have a 2-9 record, said they want to evaluate the other quarterbacks on the roster over the final month of the season. Veteran Geno Smith will start against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. The 36-year-old Manning fought back tears as he talked to reporters. Manning has started every Giants game since November 21, 2004, and his streak of 210 consecutive starts is the second-longest by a quarterback in NFL history, behind only Brett Favre’s 297. He twice led the Giants to Super Bowl victories.
Quick note: yesterday we talked about the fight between Michael Crabtree and Aqib Talib…how the league had suspended the pair each two games after the fight. LeBron James was ejected from a game last night for the first time in his 15-year career, the Cleveland Cavaliers star thrown out of a game against the Miami Heat for arguing a non-call. The ejection came in the third quarter. Referee Kane Fitzgerald told ESPN, "It was a culmination of a couple different acts. Immediately after the no call, he turned and threw an air punch directly at me and then he aggressively charged at me and then he used vulgarity in my ear a few times.
UFC president Dana White says it's still not a given the company's biggest star, lightweight champion Conor McGregor, ever fights again. Earlier this month, the UFC was still optimistic McGregor would return this year at UFC 219 on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas. The two sides are in the process of negotiating a new deal, however, and McGregor is not expected to fight again in 2017. In the meantime, the 29 year old McGregor has remained in the headlines due to questionable behavior, including an incident in which he pushed a referee at an event in Dublin. According to White, McGregor's future is anything but clear at the moment. He is coming off the biggest payday of his career against Floyd Mayweather in August. White said QUOTE "We were working on a fight for him at the end of the year, and he's just not ready. The guys got $100 million dollars. I kniow guys who made way less than that and just say f--- it. Fighting is the worst. Try to get up and get punched in the face for a living when you have $100 million in the bank”
