The NFL said yesterday that there is “no change” in its policy regarding players’ conduct during the playing of the national anthem. The statement came a day after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell reportedly called the recent protests by players “a barrier to having honest conversations and making real progress on the underlying issues.” President Donald Trump interpreted that as a demand that players stop protesting. On Twitter, he wrote: “It is about time that Roger Goodell of the NFL is finally demanding that all players STAND for our great National Anthem-RESPECT OUR COUNTRY.”

The Washington Nationals defeated the Chicago Cubs 5-0 to force a series-deciding Game 5 tonight in the NL Division Series. And over in the AL, the New York Yankees beat the Cleveland Indians 5-2 in Game 5 of the AL Division Series. The Yankees take on the Astros next.

The Red Sox have decided that they will be moving forward WITHOUT manager John Farrell.  Farrell, despite making the playoffs and finishing 1st in the AL East, decided that the slowness in making critical decisions this year is what ultimately led to his firing.  The “who is gonna coach next” rumors have already started.  Most analysts say the front running is or at least should be Jason Varitek.

Pennsylvania’s Albright College dismissed player Gyree Durante from its Division III football program for kneeling during the national anthem at a Saturday game against a rival college team. A school spokesman said the team’s leadership council had agreed that team members would kneel during the coin toss but stand during the national anthem. The player dismissed said QUOTE “I was just taught you fight for what you believe in and you don’t bow to anyone. I believe heavily in this, so I decided to fight for it.”
