Bill Gates pledges $100M To Find A Cure For Alzheimer's disease
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates invested $100 million to combat Alzheimer's disease, according to Reuters.
The investment — a personal donation separate from the Bill and Melida Gates Foundation — will include $50 million to the Dementia Discovery Fund and $50 million to start-up companies focused on Alzheimer's research.
The Dementia Discovery Fund is a venture capital fund that brings together government entities and pharmaceutical companies to advance research and find treatments for dementia.
"[Dementia] is a huge problem, a growing problem, and the scale of the tragedy — even for the people who stay alive — is very high," Mr. Gates told Reuters.
Mr. Gates said he is optimistic about finding a treatment with focused and well-funded innovation.
A Woman Calls the Cops on Her Boyfriend While She's in a Car He Stole . . . to Try to Get the Reward Money
There HAVE to be easier ways to break up with someone than this.
A 38-year-old guy named Chance Mongeon stole a 2017 Dodge Challenger from a rental car parking lot at Nashville International Airport in Tennessee back in July.
He and his girlfriend, a 38-year-old woman named Cristy Caldwell, jumped in the car and took off. And because the Challenger is FAST, he was able to get away from the cops who were chasing him.
But that's right around when Cristy called 911 from inside the car . . . to try to turn in her boyfriend to get some reward money.
The dispatcher told her there wasn't any reward money, but she wouldn't give him up without it, and they got away.
The cops investigated, and they found Chance and arrested him on several charges back in August. And last week, they also arrested Cristy for attempting to harbor a fugitive and hindering arrest.
There's no word if she and Chance are still together, but you'd HAVE to think they're not.
Pay Phones Still Make Hundreds of Millions of Dollars a Year?
I'm not sure who still uses pay phones, but apparently the answer is "lots of people." Because those things are GOLDMINES.
According to Vice.com, just two years ago, pay phones across the country made a total of $286 MILLION.
And they estimate that every phone pulls in around $236 per year, which means they each get at least a few calls every day. Who knew?
November Could Be President Trump's Most Active Tweeting Month Yet
That rogue Twitter employee who shut down PRESIDENT TRUMP's account for 11 minutes did what he or she could, but in the end, the effort was wasted. Because November is on pace to be Trump's most prolific month on Twitter yet.
Trump's current record is 485 Tweets in September. But he's on pace to obliterate that record, with an estimated 723 Tweets. He had 51 last Tuesday alone . . . WHILE he was visiting South Korea. (At least he has his priorities straight.)
Meanwhile, Trump was on the WRONG end of an awkward handshake for a change.
Attending the Association of South East Asian Nations summit in the Philippines yesterday, he was forced to take part in a weird custom he wasn't prepared for.
All the leaders stand side-by-side, cross their arms, and shake with the guy on either side. Trump clearly didn't know what he was doing.
(It's not clear if the Association of South East Asian Nations got their handshake from the old "Fat Albert" show.)
