Pet rescue volunteer's car stolen, 3rd theft in 2 months
A pet rescuer had her car stolen while she was trying to help others in need.
If that sounds familiar, it should. It is actually the third theft that has happened to a pet rescue agency in less than two months.
Catherine Stanton has been volunteering with the South City non-profit organization, St. Louis City Kitties.
“These animals are a lifeline for them,” said Stanton. Her volunteer route takes her to the homes of elderly residents, who need extra support caring for their pets and themselves. Stanton brings cat food, toys, and in some cases, toiletries and food for their owners.
"You can see, in some instances, they’re more focused on caring for their pets than themselves,” said Stanton.
On Saturday, Stanton parked her at the intersection of Texas and Utah. She put her emergency lights on and took three bags of supplies from her trunk. It was her third delivery of the day.
"The woman was 30 feet away,” she said. “I looked around the neighborhood. I was conscious of where I was."
But, when Stanton walked toward her car, she was stopped in her tracks...
Pentagon says Syria strikes hit ‘heart’ of chemical weapons program
Defense Department officials said Saturday that U.S.-led strikes against Syria had taken out the “heart” of President Bashar Assad’s chemical weapons program, but acknowledged that the Syrian government most likely retained some ability to again attack its own people with chemical agents.
Warplanes and ships from the United States, Britain and France launched more than 100 missiles at three chemical weapons storage and research facilities near Damascus and Homs, the officials told reporters, in an operation that President Donald Trump and Pentagon leaders hailed as a success.
“A perfectly executed strike last night,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “Thank you to France and the United Kingdom for their wisdom and the power of their fine Military. Could not have had a better result. Mission Accomplished!”
The strikes were the second time in just over a year that Trump had sent missiles crashing into Syrian military targets, adding U.S. firepower to one of the most complex and multisided conflicts in a generation.
Beyond the immediate question of whether the strikes actually accomplished the stated goal of diminishing Syria’s capacity to make and use chemical agents, the new strikes posed the risk of drawing the United States more deeply into a conflict in which Russia and Iran have more invested than ever in keeping Assad in power...
James Comey strikes back against 'morally unfit' Donald Trump in scathing interview
In an extraordinary interview, former FBI director James Comey called Donald Trump "morally unfit to be president" and said he believed it was possible the Russians were holding compromising personal information over the head of the commander in chief.
Comey's comments and his new book, A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership, are fueling a combustible moment in Washington that could become a constitutional crisis. At the White House, Trump has unleashed a barrage of angry tweets against Comey — calling him an "untruthful slime ball," among other insults — amid reports he was poised to fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein for his role in the Russia investigation that Comey once headed.
Never before in American history has a current or former director of the FBI, the nation's principal law-enforcement agency, publicly described a president in such a scathing manner.
"I actually believe he's morally unfit to be president," Comey told USA TODAY in an exclusive interview Friday at his home in the Virginia suburbs outside Washington. He called that characterization appropriate for "someone who is able to see moral equivalence in (white nationalist protests in) Charlottesville or to speak and treat women like they're pieces of meat and to lie constantly and who appears to lack an external moral framework" of religion or philosophy or history.
In an even more explosive comment, Comey said it would be less than honest to rule out the possibility that Trump had been compromised by one of the United States' primary foreign adversaries.
"It's hard to explain some things without at least leaving your mind open to that being a possibility," said Comey, who has served three presidents in senior posts. "There's a non-zero possibility that the Russians have some, some sway over him that is rooted in his personal experience, and I don't know whether that's the business about the activity in a Moscow hotel room or finances or something else."...
Barbara Bush in failing health, won't seek further treatment
via CNN: Former first lady Barbara Bush is in failing health, a source close to the Bush family tells CNN.
The source said she is being cared for at her home in Houston and has decided she does not want to go back into the hospital. She has been on oxygen for some time.
Her husband, former President George H. W. Bush is with her, as are daughter Doro and sons Marvin and Neil. Her other sons, former President George W. Bush and former Gov. Jeb Bush, have been in and out visiting her the past week.
Bush's office released a statement, confirming after a "recent series of hospitalizations," she has decided against seeking additional medical help and will instead focus on "comfort care."
"It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of her failing health, worrying not for herself — thanks to her abiding faith — but for others. She is surrounded by a family she adores, and appreciates the many kind messages and especially the prayers she is receiving," the statement continued.
At 92 years old, Bush has been suffering for some time and has been in and out of the hospital multiple times in the last year while battling with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD, and congestive heart failure.
Most recently, she was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital on Good Friday suffering from shortness of breath. She was doing better and had been released earlier this past week, but started to get worse in the past couple of days.
People are generally aware that Bush Sr. suffers from a form of Parkinson's disease that has him in a wheelchair; however, most were not aware of the former first lady's health problems, which started about two years ago.
The Bushes have been married for 73 years. The former President wrote in his book, "All the Best, George Bush:" "We are two people but we are one."
Bush is the only living wife of one former President and the mother of another former President.
She has dedicated her life post-White House life to the cause of literacy, and she and her husband have raised more than a billion dollars for charity since they left office.
B.C. couple ties up man they claim visited home for sex with 13-year-old
via CTVNews: A Vancouver Island couple is standing by their decision to restrain a man with zip ties in their home after alleging that he arrived to have sex with their underage daughter.
In a video posted to Facebook Live, the girl’s mother can be heard berating the 28-year-old Port Alberni, B.C. man as he lay face down on the floor with his hands bound behind his back.
CTV News is not identifying the couple to protect the identity of the girl.
“He come to my house to meet my 13-year-old f***ing daughter to f**** her. He wanted to be her first,” the mother said from behind a smartphone camera. “We f***ing tackled him, and Zap strapped him and called the police.”
RCMP arrived at the home on Thursday and took the man to hospital. He has not been charged.
“Why wouldn’t the police come and help me catch the predator that just came to my f***ing house,” the mother continued in the video. “I’m so glad that I got my daughter’s phone and saw a message that she didn’t.”
The mother claims she asked police to investigate the man six weeks ago, when she discovered explicit messages sent to her daughter’s Instagram account. She said police told her to block the man and forget it.
Frustrated by the response, she set up the meeting. The mother said she asked police to be present during the ambush, but claims authorities would not help...
Starbucks Has Apologized After They Had Two Black Guys Arrested While They Waited For a Friend
As you know, it's illegal to Drive While Black, Walk While Black, and Knock on a Stranger's Door For Help While Black. Now it's also illegal, apparently, to Wait While Black.
Two black men were at a Starbucks in Philadelphia on Thursday, and they were waiting for a friend to meet them before they all ordered. That's pretty common at Starbucks . . . I've seen plenty of people doing that, and I've done it myself.
But this time, the employees called 911 and said the guys were trespassing. So the cops came, and they wound up CUFFING and arresting the guys.
A woman in the Starbucks took a video, and you can hear people saying things like, "They didn't do anything" and "What did they do?" The video went viral almost immediately and has racked up several million views.
The CEO of Starbucks apologized on Saturday and he said he'd like to meet with the men and apologize face-to-face. And Starbucks is obviously not going to press charges.
The mayor of Philadelphia also called out Starbucks and called for, quote, "implicit bias training for its employees."
Top plastic surgeon 'killed lover by sprinkling cocaine on his PENIS before she performed sex act on him'
via Mirror: A top plastic surgeon has been accused of killing a lover with cocaine after sprinkling it on his PENIS before she performed a sex act on him.
Andreas Niderbichler, 42, has been arrested after a woman, 38, reportedly collapsed and died after performing oral sex on him at his home in hospital grounds.
Police are now probing claims he gave three more women the drug - who reportedly suffered no side serious effects - during sexual encounters.
Police believe he sprinkled the drug on his penis beforehand, local media report.
As a plastic and reconstructive surgery expert he practiced nationwide and detectives say there may be many more victims.
Mr Niderbichler was appointed head doctor in his field at the Harzer Clinic in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt in 2016...
But his superiors did not know was that he used an online dating site to meet women for sex, police said.
Prosecutors say a 38-year-old woman was involved in consensual oral sex with the doctor on February 20 when she collapsed at his home in Halberstadt, which is within clinic grounds.
She was raced to hospital in an ambulance but died soon after being admitted, according to authorities...
