Woman punched paramedic after she allegedly drank vanilla extract and a beer
A 28-year-old woman was arrested by Lafayette police over the weekend when she allegedly got drunk on 8 ounces of vanilla extract and a beer and then punched a paramedic in the nose while he was trying to treat her.
Sarah Valeriano, of Lyons, faces charges of second-degree assault, resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer.
According to an arrest affidavit, police were called to an apartment in the 1400 block of Cimarron Drive in Lafayette for a disturbance. Officers arrived and found Valeriano banging on the walls. Officers said Valeriano appeared to be very intoxicated, was unsteady on her feet and had wet the bed. The person who called police said Valeriano drank 8 ounces of vanilla extract and a Fat Tire beer.
Pure vanilla extract has a minimum of 35 percent alcohol by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Officers were concerned about Valeriano’s health and called paramedics. But according to the affidavit, Valeriano then punched the paramedic who was trying to treat her in the nose, at which point officers placed her under arrest.
