DUI suspect nearly hits two people on Taco Bell trip, driving at 7x legal limit
A woman is facing several drunk driving charges after deputies say she nearly struck two pedestrians while driving to a Medford Taco Bell.
Diane Wilcox, 39, was taken to the hospital where officials say her blood-alcohol content was measured at .55 percent - nearly seven times Oregon’s legal limit.
Someone first called emergency dispatchers about 9:30 a.m. to report a driver who was swerving and crashing a 2012 Mercedes Benz SUV into garbage cans along South Stage Road.
Officials said Wilcox continued toward her home on Pioneer Road, missed her driveway and ended up in a ditch. She backed out of the ditch, and went around the driveway entrance before a passerby stopped her from driving until deputies arrived.
According to deputies, Wilcox drove from her house to the Taco Bell on Center Drive, which is more than five miles from her house. During the trip she nearly struck two people who were walking along the road.
Wilcox wasn’t injured in the crash, however, deputies took her to the Rogue Regional Medical Center because she was “extremely intoxicated.”
She was cited in lieu of custody (because of her hospital stay) for DUII, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving, and two counts of recklessly endangering another person. She also received citations for driving while uninsured, failure to stay in the lane, and driving with an open container.
Deputies want to hear from anyone who saw Wilcox or her silver Mercedes on Tuesday morning.
