Crap on Celebrities
#CrapOnCelebrities: Mariah Carey redeems herself on #NYE, Maria Menounos married on LIVE TV, Paris Hilton ENGAGED, 20 Things that turn 20 this year, AND MORE!
MARIAH CAREY started 2017 off on the wrong foot with her disastrous performance on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest". During that show, there were some technical difficulties, and rather than perform through it, she just awkwardly walked around onstage, talking to the crowd while her songs played in the background. Well, Mariah returned to the show this year . . . and for the most part, she REDEEMED herself, although there was one part that went viral. After the first song, she complained about the lack of hot tea onstage, especially with it being so cold outside. But, then she said, quote, "We'll just have to rough it." It's possible that she was just joking . . . but then again, this IS Mariah Carey we're talking about, so there's a good chance that it was a diva moment. In any event, it became a sensation on Twitter, so she later posted a photo of herself sipping on some hot tea, with the caption, quote, "Found my tea!" To her credit, it was only 11 degrees when she performed . . . and negative-7 with windchill factored in. She also sang two songs. A TRUE diva would've backed out altogether. Oh, and she WAS singing live.
MARIA MENOUNOS married her boyfriend of 20 years, Keven Undergaro, during the live New Year's Eve broadcast SHE was hosting for Fox. Her co-host was STEVE HARVEY . . . and since he'll basically do ANYTHING on TV, he officiated the wedding in Times Square, while dressed sort of like a Batman villain. Maria apparently decided to do it two weeks ago . . . when a producer mentioned to her that it'd be cool to feature a wedding during the show. Steve was ordained just two days before the broadcast.
DON LEMON got TIPSY during last year's New Year's Eve show on CNN, and started talking about how he wanted to find a man to date in 2017. Well, he did . . . because on this year's show he said, quote, "I found love." And later he invited his boyfriend on-camera, and kissed him.
Speaking of CNN, RANDI KAYE reported live from Denver during the New Year's Eve show . . . with a lit marijuana joint in her hand. Obviously, it's legal there, but it's still pretty wild. She didn't actually smoke it
HODA KOTB will officially be MATT LAUER's permanent replacement on "The Today Show". She will still co-host her hour with KATHIE LEE GIFFORD. Hoda says Matt congratulated her, and was sincere about it. Hoda isn't being paid anywhere near as much as Matt was. She's making about $7 million a year . . . the same as what Samantha is getting. But Matt was raking in around $25 million. Although, he'd also been with the show a lot longer.
"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" hung onto the top box office spot for another week to close out the year at #1. It's been the top-grossing movie ever since it premiered on December 15th. "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" came close to dethroning it this time, but couldn't quite get there.

For the first time in almost 60 years, the three biggest movies at the box office last year all had FEMALE leads. "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" with Daisy Ridley was the top-grossing movie of 2017, pulling in over $517 million domestically. And "Beauty and the Beast" with Emma Watson was second at $504 million. Beauty and the Beast was actually #1 until the LAST DAY of the year. "Star Wars" took the lead on December 31st. "Wonder Woman" with Gal Gadot was third at $412.5 million. The last time the three top-grossing movies of the year all had female leads was 59 years ago in 1958. Here are three more year-end notes . . ."Star Wars: The Last Jedi" has now made over a billion dollars worldwide. Which means the three movies since Disney bought the franchise have already pulled in more than the franchise COST. "The Force Awakens" made just over $2 billion. "Rogue One" made just over $1 billion. Disney paid about $4 billion for Lucasfilm in 2012.

300 women in Hollywood have joined forces to launch an initiative called 'Time's Up,' to fight back against sexual harassment in the workplace. 'Time's Up' includes a legal defense fund that will help women protect themselves against sexual misconduct, and encourage them to report it when it happens. It will also push legislation to penalize any companies that turn a blind eye. It's also looking for gender parity within the entertainment industry by 2020. The 300 women include some big names, like Reese Witherspoon, Kerry Washington, Dakota Johnson, Emma Stone, Shonda Rhimes, Eva Longoria, Ashley Judd, America Ferrera, and Natalie Portman. They're also asking that any women walking the red carpet for this weekend's "Golden Globes" wear black as a sign of support to help raise awareness.

A 'Jeopardy' contestant learned the hard way that Alex Trebek and co. are sticklers when it comes to pronunciation ... especially between "gangster" and "gangsta. "Nick Spicher was on the show Monday night,(AUDIO) He was asked to provide the question to a clue that included Coolio's song "Gangsta's Paradise" and author John Milton's book "Paradise Lost." His answer -- "Gangster's Paradise Lost" -- was almost correct ... except he said -ster instead of -sta. He was awarded $1,600 at first, but Trebek circled back and deducted the money when judges found his answer to be inaccurate, taking away an additional $1,600.
Recreational marijuana became legal in California at midnight on New Year's. And MIKE TYSON is already broke ground on a 40-acre pot farm in California City, California, about 100 miles north of L.A., and he claims it'll revolutionize the industry. Half of the land will be used to grow pot. The other half will have a supply store . . . an extraction facility . . . a factory for edibles . . . a pot-growing SCHOOL . . . a campground for 'glamping,' a.k.a. luxury camping . . . and a small amphitheater. So it kind of sounds like a pot farm that's also a mini pot-smoking RESORT. He says the goal is to grow high-grade cannabis, including medical marijuana that helps with things like inflammation, but doesn't get you high. It's not clear when he plans to open up shop. This isn't the first time Tyson's weed-smoking has been in the news. In his 2013 memoir, he said he used to smoke before his boxing matches. He used to beat drug tests by using a fake PENIS with clean urine. But he did get caught. In 2000, he was fined $200,000 for testing positive for pot while he was still boxing.

It's been 10 years since anyone last cared about what was happening with PARIS HILTON . . . assuming we ever did . . . but for anyone who's just coming out of a decade-long coma, check this out: Paris is ENGAGED. Her boyfriend Chris Zylka proposed to her during their trip to Aspen. She posted video of it, and said it was "the most romantic moment of her life." Which, if you’ve seen One Night in Paris, I disagree. Her diamond ring is huge, naturally. It's supposedly 20 carats, and is worth $2 million. There's no word on a wedding date. Paris has been engaged twice before, but she's never been married. Chris is an actor who you may remember as Tommy on HBO's "The Leftovers". He's 32. She's 36. And they've been dating for 11 months. Chris also had a recurring role on the ABC Family show, "10 Things I Hate About You" a while back.
LINDSAY LOHAN was bitten by a snake while vacationing in Thailand, but she's fine. She posted a photo of the bite on Instagram . . . and later added, quote, "Actually, my shaman told me it was good luck and positive energy. So, God bless." the snake is fine but now has chlamydia
