#CrapOnCelebrities: Chris Cornell death ruled suicide, Conan O'Brien signed a four year deal, Leonardo DiCaprio splits from model AND MORE!
By now you've obviously heard that CHRIS CORNELL from SOUNDGARDEN and AUDIOSLAVE died after a show in Detroit Wednesday night, at the age of 52. Well, the medical examiner has already ruled it a suicide by hanging. Chris had his battles with drug addiction, but yesterday his wife Vicky said she talked to him before and after the show, and there were absolutely no signs he was depressed or suicidal. Vicky had tried to reach Chris in his hotel room early Thursday morning but couldn't get through. So she called somebody to check on him, and that's when he was found on the floor with some kind of band around his neck. TMZ has video of Chris at Wednesday's show, telling the crowd how awesome they were, and saying, quote, "I feel a little bit sorry for the next [effing] place we play." The last song Soundgarden played . . . and thus the last song Chris Cornell will EVER play . . . was "Slaves & Bulldozers" . . . but they mixed in parts of "In My Time of Dying" by ZEPPELIN. There probably wasn't any symbolism there. They were known to play that one. Here is audio from the last song and him saying so long Detroit at the end. Check out Chris's vocal track from "Black Hole Sun" without the music. Dude had a voice.
CHRIS CORNELL's death has made a lot of people realize something: We need to protect EDDIE VEDDER at all costs . . . because he's THE BETTY WHITE OF GRUNGE!!! No, he's not the ONLY grunge singer from the early '90s left, like Betty White is the only "Golden Girl". But if there were a Mount Rushmore of Grunge, Eddie would be the only one on it still breathing. Think about it: Cornell . . . gone. Kurt Cobain . . . gone. Scott Weiland . . . gone. Layne Staley from Alice in Chains . . . gone. Not to mention Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon and Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone.
Chris Cornell's music is spiking in sales on iTunes and Amazon.
The leap was, of course, expected after his death -- but it's interesting to see what fans are connecting with most. The 20th anniversary reissue of Soundgarden's "Superunknown" is the #1 album on iTunes -- and his other band, Audioslave, has the #2 spot. His recordings are scattered all over Amazon's "Movers & Shakers" chart as well.
In an odd coincidence ... some rare Cornell recordings will be out Friday when a deluxe reissue of the "Singles" soundtrack is released. It will include previously unreleased songs Chris wrote for the film's score.
Former Fox News boss ROGER AILES died yesterday, after he fell and hit his head at his home in Palm Beach, Florida last week. He was 77 years old. Ailes suffered from hemophilia, which contributed to his death. There were no signs of foul play. Roger's career in TV stretched more than five decades. He was a producer for "The Mike Douglas Show" in the '60s, and produced TV appearances for RICHARD NIXON. He later served as a consultant to presidents RONALD REAGAN and GEORGE H.W. BUSH. Ailes was president of CNBC when he left to found Fox News in 1996, where he helped launch the careers of several journalists, including Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Megyn Kelly. He resigned last summer after former host GRETCHEN CARLSON accused him of sexual harassment. And O'Reilly was forced out soon after, thanks to his own sexual harassment scandal.
Today, STEVE HARVEY is probably wishing his worst problem was people talking to him in the hallway. Because his ex-wife is now suing him . . . for MURDERING HER SOUL. This is Steve's second wife Mary Shackelford. They got divorced in 2005, after nine years, and she's still struggling with the aftermath 12 years later. She's suing Steve for $60 MILLION, claiming a long list of offenses, including child endangerment . . . torture . . . conspiracy against rights . . . intentional infliction of emotional distress . . . breach of contract . . . and "soul murder." The lawsuit states, quote, "Soul murder is achieved by a combination of torture, deprivation and brainwashing." Steve and Mary's divorce was VERY nasty . . . and she's spoken out before, claiming that Steve had many mistresses during their marriage, including his current wife Marjorie. And six years ago, a judge reprimanded her for making false accusations about him. Steve hasn't commented on any of this.
Biggest movies the year you were born:
If you were born in 1982...
The BIGGEST movie was E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, which grossed $359.2 million in the United States.
The Best Picture winner was Gandhi, which also won Oscars for Best Director (Richard Attenborough), Best Actor (Ben Kingsley), Best Writing, Original Screenplay, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, and Best Film Editing.
But the best movie was Fanny and Alexander. Though cut down from a 312-minute, four-part TV series, Ingmar Bergman's theatrical version, dark and heightened through the senses of its young protagonists, remains the pinnacle of family drama.
If you were born in 1985 (Patrico)...
The BIGGEST movie was Back to the Future, which grossed $210.6 million in the United States.
The Best Picture winner was Out of Africa, which also won Oscars for Best Director (Sydney Pollack), Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Sound.
But the best movie was After Hours. For all the sweeping epics and nostalgia-crystallizing blockbusters of 1985, it's Martin Scorsese's sprint through New York's night owl scene that grabs every who, what, where, when, and why of life and spin-paints them into a living, breathing movie. The Matrix for late-night coffee drinkers
If you were born in 1981 (Moon)...
The BIGGEST movie was Raiders of the Lost Ark, which grossed $212.2 million in the United States.
The Best Picture winner was Chariots of Fire, which also won Oscars for Best Writing, Original Screenplay, Best Costume Design, and Best Original Score.
But the best movie was The Evil Dead. Spielberg's serial adventure throwback is the greatest action movie of all time, no doubt, but the raw carnage (and talent) on display in Sam Raimi's was a rough landmark for indie cinema.
If you were born in 1967 (Jeff)...
The BIGGEST movie was Jungle Book, which grossed $141.8 million in the United States.
The Best Picture winner was In the Heat of the Night, which also won Oscars for Best Picture (Walter Mirisch), Best Actor (Rod Steiger), Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay.
But the best movie was Bonnie & Clyde. Inspired by the don't-give-a-fuh attitude towards moviemaking conventions happening in France, Arthur Penn kicked off the "American New Wave" with this gangster tale, which prevails in today's less prudish times thanks to Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway's killer performances.

Last month, VAL KILMER finally admitted that he battled cancer. But he said he WON that battle. And earlier this week in an online Q&A, he said he beat it through the POWER OF PRAYER. Quote, "People that know I am a Christian Scientist make the assumption that I have somehow endangered myself. "But many, many people have been healed by prayer throughout recorded history. And many, many people have died by whatever was modern medicine." He added, quote, "Jesus taught his students how to heal physical and mental challenges by understanding the immense power of love . . . I have seen people turn down love. I have turned it down myself when I was younger." To be fair, Val didn't say he ONLY used prayer to fight his cancer, but that IS one of the basic tenets of Christian Science.
The man who was arrested trying to get onto Kylie Jenner's property multiple times ... has now confessed to murder. Anaheim PD says Marvin Magallanes turned himself in and copped to killing a 49-year-old homeless man back in January. Cops say they've also linked him, forensically, to an unsolved murder from October 2016 of another homeless man. This is the same man who was arrested twice for his attempts to contact Kylie. Remember he drove through the security gate at her exclusive Calabasas neighborhood, The Oaks. He escaped from a psych ward after one of those arrests. He has been booked for 2 counts of murder with special circumstances.
Katy Perry surprised fans on Thursday night by releasing a song called "Swish Swish" featuring Nicki Minaj--and it's pretty obvious that the single is a response to her nemesis Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood." The pop star's lyrics include, "Your game is tired/ You should retire/ You’re about cute as an old coupon expired," and, "Don’t you come for me/ No, not today/ You’re calculated/ I’ve got your number/ Because you’re a joke/ And I’m a courtside killer queen." Meanwhile, Minaj's rap verse contains the lines, "Don’t be tryna double back/ I already despise you/ All that fake love you showin’/ Couldn’t even disguise you." Fans quickly took to Twitter to applaud Perry for clapping back at Swift and #SwishSwish began trending. Meanwhile, model Ruby Rose defended her BFF Taylor by calling out Perry on Twitter. "I just think with everything going on in the world, to go from rebranding as political activist only to ditch it and go low is a bummer," she wrote. She also described Perry's music as "purposeful poop"--a play on Perry recently describing her sound as "purposeful pop."
Leonardo DiCaprio, 42, and model Nina Agdal, 25, have split. “They broke up a couple days ago. They remain in touch. They both felt the relationship ran its course,” a source close to the couple tells Us Weekly. “It’s amicable. They still do talk and remain friends.
Actress Aisha Taylor has to pay her ex-husband, Jeff Tietjen, nearly $2 million in spousal support. A judge has ordered Taylor to pay Tietjen $31,250 a month for the next year, along with an additional $500K. The actress will keep her two companies, BTDO Media and Hot Machine, in addition to her 2013 Tesla. The former couple will split all other assets.

James Corden did Carpool Karaoke with Harry Styles last night. Here they are doing "Hey Ya" and "Endless Love."
Yesterday, the CW finally got their turn to announce their new shows for next season. The CW would say the networks saved the best for last . . . but not even THEY would believe that. They unveiled four new shows . . . all dramas. Perhaps most notably, they're doing a "Dynasty" revival . . . even though their target audience wasn't even alive during the original show. It lasted nine seasons on ABC, from 1981 to 1989. Obviously, that doesn't matter. The new show will have an all-new, modernized story, and it was created by the people who did "Gossip Girl".
JEFF GOLDBLUM says STEVE JOBS once wanted him to be the voice of Apple.
On this day in 1994 then 18-year-old tennis star Jennifer Capriati checks into a drug rehab center. In 1997 NBC sportscaster Marv Albert is charged with assault, for allegedly biting a woman several times, and forcible sodomy. The attack in a Virginia hotel room is against a woman with whom Albert had had previous sexual encounters. He eventually pleads guilty to lesser charges and serves no jail time.
