Adrian Peterson is talking some serious smack...

The Rams are trying to free up some salary cap space.  The Post says the contract of Chris Long and Austin Pettis were restructured to save nearly 2.5-million-dollars this season.  Long didn't lose any money while Pettis cut down from 1.431-million to 950-thousand. Rams are at home Sunday to begin the NFL season.  The Vikings are coming to the Edwards Jones Dome for a noon kickoff on FOX.  Shaun Hill will start at QB.

Adrian Peterson is talking some serious smack. Like baseball legend Babe Ruth, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is calling his shot.  Peterson predicted Thursday he would score on his first carry of the season Sunday against the Rams.  Peterson said he told some teammates that same thing last year and then ripped off a 78-yard touchdown run on his first play against the Lions.

Marshawn Lynch ran for 110 yards and two touchdowns for the defending champions and Seattle's defense wreaked its usual havoc en route to a 36-16 win over the Green Bay Packers to kick off the 2014 NFL season.  Russell Wilson passed for 191 yards and two touchdowns. Aaron Rodgers took very few chances downfield and tossed for just 189 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Scary thing for fantasy owners out there…Eddie Lacy left the game early with a concussion.

Kolten Wong's RBI-single in the third inning held up as the Cardinals beat the Brewers 3-2 at Miller Park.    Michael Wacha allowed a run in three innings in his return.  It’s the sixth straight win for the Cards and they increase their NL Central lead to four games over Milwaukee.  The series continues tonight.

The Mizzou Tigers are on the road tomorrow at 11 a.m. on ESPN.  Mizzou is at Toledo for the second game of the season.  The Fighting Illini host Western Kentucky tomorrow on the Big Ten Network.

Sorry Rizz…no soccer news today…The Americans wrapped up pool play with a 95-71 win over Ukraine at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.  The Americans square off with Mexico on Saturday night in Barcelona.  The Mexicans finished fourth in Group D.

Let’s rebound Rizz…the Federated Auto Parts 400 goes down this weekend.  Let’s do a little night racing.  The race goes down at 6:30PM on Saturday.
