WOMEN STILL SMOKIN WHILE PREGNANT

Samantha Burton went to a hospital 25 weeks into her pregnancy and was admitted into Tallahassee Memorial Hospital because of complications. Her doctor -- also a woman -- ordered her to immediately quit smoking and stay in the hospital on complete bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy. Burton disagreed. She wanted to go to a different hospital and get a second opinion. Instead, with the help of State Attorney Willie Meggs, the hospital asked a judge to force her to stay put. During the court hearing, Burton had no attorney. She had to try to argue her case over the phone from her hospital bed. Circuit Judge John Cooper decided it was in the best interest of the child for her to remain at the hospital on bed rest. The judge didn't trust her to not smoke or care for herself and the baby.

The TSA is conducting an internal investigation at an Orlando Field Office regarding a 'Jeopardy'-style board posted by employees that mocked various minorities including gays and lesbians, CNN reports: "The board, resembling the TV game show 'Jeopardy,' includes categories such as 'pickle smokers,' 'our gang' and 'creatures,' which sources said were names used by managers for gay men, African-Americans and lesbians."

 

A 41-year-old Nebraska woman is accused of having sex nightly with her teenage son when he was in seventh and eighth grades, officials said Wednesday. Omaha Police said the now 15-year-old boy reported the alleged abuse last week to a counselor, who notified authorities. The boy told police his mother was addicted to prescription drugs when the alleged abuse took place in 2008 and 2009 while he lived with her in Omaha.

 

Darin Price, 38, a Heritage High School math teacher and girls basketball coach was arrested last Friday for soliciting sex from a minor. The victim, a 17-year-old senior, was after class making up an exam, when she stated Price had approached her, laid a $100 bill on her desk and told her to get undressed, after she refused, he laid down another $100 bill. The victim contacted local police and told them what had happened. The police sent Price a text message from the victim’s phone and arranged a meeting with the teacher. It had been reported that the teacher and student did not have a relationship, and the student went to the police before any sexual activity had taken place. Price was arrested after he showed up at the meeting location with condoms, alcohol, and $200.

Last night, MTV announced that their runaway reality hot "Jersey Shore" would be back for a second season. Tony DiSanto, president of programming for MTV, said that the show will return for mid-summer and that means that shooting would be underway pretty soon so expect The Situation, Snookie, Sammi, Pauly, Vinny and J-Woww to be back at their Seaside Heights house next time you see them.

 

Actor Elmore "Rip" Torn will appear before a Connecticut judge again, this time to face allegations he broke into a bank with a loaded revolver while intoxicated. The 78-year-old Salisbury resident is scheduled to be arraigned on burglary and firearm charges today in Bantam Superior Court. State police say Torn was arrested Friday night after authorities found him inside the Litchfield Bancorp in Salisbury with a loaded revolver. The "Men in Black" actor was held in lieu of $100,000 bond.

CRAPPY BIRTHDAYS:

 Jackson County prosecutors today accused a 66-year-old man of attacking a 42-year-old woman with a machete after an argument over crack cocaine. Prosecutors charged Eugenio Planche with first-degree assault and armed criminal action in connection with the 2:10 a.m. attack this morning in the 5800 block of Woodland Avenue. According to police, Planche gave the victim, who was his roommate, $20 to buy a rock of crack then complained about the size of the rock she delivered. Planche allegedly retrieved a machete from his bedroom and swung it at the victim while other roommmates tried to break up the fight.
