NEWS:
When an ambulance brought Daniel Webb home from the hospital after he hurt his knee in March, paramedics warned the then 550-pound man he probably wouldn't be able to get up from his recliner if they put him there, his wife said. Webb told them to leave him there anyway. He would sit in that recliner, slowly dying, for the next eight months. Finally, paramedics were called back to his Greenwood home on Wednesday because he was in a lot of pain. Webb's body was physically stuck to the power recliner and firefighters had to cut him from the chair to take him to the hospital. He died a few hours later, his body covered with sores and a "very bad odor," according to a police report.

A father in Michigan is accused of forcing his son to strip at gunpoint, marching him to a vacant lot, and shooting him to death after learning the 15-year-old had inappropriate sexual contact with a 3-year-old girl. The boy's mother, Lazette Cherry, said her son had told her about the sexual contact. "I called and told his father. This isn't something you sweep under the rug," she said. Then, she said, Jamar Pinkney Sr arrived at their home with a gun, ordered his son to strip, and marched him outside despite her protests. She said her son also protested, "He got on his knees and begged 'No, Daddy, no,' and he pulled the trigger."
Starry-eyed children writing letters to the jolly man at the North Pole this holiday season will probably not get a response from Santa Claus or his helpers. The US Postal Service is dropping a popular national program begun in 1954 in the small Alaska town of North Pole, where volunteers open and respond to thousands of letters addressed to Santa each year. Replies come with North Pole postmarks. Last year, a postal worker in Maryland recognized an Operation Santa volunteer there as a registered sex offender. The postal worker interceded before the individual could answer any letters, but the Postal Service viewed the episode as a big enough scare to tighten rules in such programs nationwide.

The Associated Press reported Thursday that retired NBA star Jayson Williams has agreed to a plea deal that would send him to prison for up to three years for accidentally shooting a driver at his New Jersey estate in 2002, citing a person with knowledge of the case. Williams will reportedly plead guilty today to aggravated assault, avoiding a retrial set for January on a reckless manslaughter charge. Witnesses testified that Williams was showing off a shotgun in his bedroom in February 2002 when he snapped the weapon shut and it fired, killing driver Costas Christofi. They also testified that Williams initially put the gun in the dead man's hands and told those present to lie about what happened. The defense has said that the shooting was an accident and Williams panicked afterward. During his initial trial in 2004, the jury acquitted Williams of aggravated manslaughter and convicted him of covering up the shooting, but deadlocked on the reckless manslaughter count. He's remained free on bail pending the retrial's outcome.Williams retired in 2000 after nine seasons in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Nets.

DOUCHEBAGS OF THE DAY:
Britney Spears' Australian promoter has called her shows an incredible spectacle. But not everyone is convinced --including trading standards officers. Fans - who have paid up to £800 for tickets - have walked out of her two-hour 'Circus Tour' shows and demanded their money back because of disappointment over her lip-synching and because her dancing failed to make up for the lack of words.
