Unless Virginia's governor steps in, sniper mastermind John Allen Muhammad is due to be executed for attacks that terrorised the US capital region for three weeks in 2002. Muhammad was sentenced to death for killing Dean Harold Meyers at a Manassas, Virginia, petrol station during a spree that left 10 dead across Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC. Muhammad is set to die by injection at Greensville Correctional Centre in Jarratt TODAY.

 

The court will decide whether sentencing the teens to life for less than murder constitutes "cruel and unusual punishment," which is prohibited by the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution. But the cases will also fuel questions about the role and power of American judges

 

Maclaren USA and the Consumer Product Safety Commission today announced a voluntary recall of "about a million" Maclaren baby strollers because of the risk of fingertip amputation.  The stroller's hinge mechanism poses a fingertip amputation and cut hazard to children when the stroller is being unfolded or opened. Police say the New York police lieutenant who killed himself at Floyd Bennet Field on Thursday morning, apparently used another officer's gun to commit suicide.  According to reports, Lieutenant Michael Pigott's suicide note indicated that he was afraid of being charged for the death of a man in Brooklyn who died after he authorized the fatal use of a Taser stun gun on the naked psychiatric patient. The officer was remorseful and distraught. He apologized and sought the family's forgiveness. Then he married father of two sons and a daughter, went to his unit's headquarters Thursday morning and shot himself to death, just hours before the family laid the victim to rest.

The Pittsburgh Steelers notched their fifth straight win last night with a 28-10 Monday Night Football victory over the Denver Broncos before the Denver fans at Invesco Field. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw for 233 yards, including two short touchdown passes to Hines Ward. Other than a field goal on the opening drive of the game, Denver's only other score came on the opening drive of the second half, the Denver defense sacked Roethlisberger and punched the ball out of the quarterback's hands, leading to a 54-yard touchdown.

I'm sure you heard by now, but just in case....The Kansas City Chiefs released running back Larry Johnson yesterday . . . the day he was due back from his second suspension in the past two years. Johnson was suspended for two weeks after he called someone a GINOBILI (fag) and took shots at head coach Todd Haley on Twitter. The decision to let him go was made early yesterday. In 2008, Johnson was benched . . . then suspended by the league . . . over two incidents at a Kansas City club. One woman accused him of throwing a drink on her, and another said he pushed her head. He ended up pleading guilty to two counts of disturbing the peace . . . and was sentenced to two years' probation.

The Blues welcome Vancouver to the Scott Trade Center tonight as they start a 6-game home stand. At this point , that may seem like a bad idea considering the Blues have only one victory on their home ice. This will be the first time the two teams will meet since the Canucks swept the Blues in the first round of the playoffs last year. The puck drops at 7 P.M.
 

Comedian Katt Williams was arrested on the charges of alleged burglary and entry without authority. Georgia police has detained him in a prison, in the Coweta County. He will be appearing for bail this afternoon, at 4 p.m. He was arrested early on Monday morning, after the Sunday, Nov. 8, incident. Police said that he had entered the private residence using a crowbar. The actor/comedian was arrested in suburban Atlanta in Georgia. He had allegedly broken into a home and stolen jewelery and coins. Williams’ bail is expected to be set at $41,000 - it is believed that Williams was staying at the home and was friends with the homeowner.

 

YOU can call her pretty but if you call her "vacant" expect to wind up in court. Heirhead Paris Hilton is threatening to sue a New Zealand company which advertised an unused billboard by using her picture with the word "vacant" written across it. Hilton's manager Jamie Freed said from Los Angeles that Wellington-based Media5 had not gained permission to use the image and could expect to hear from her lawyers.
