Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammett will host his first horror convention, called Kirk Von Hammett's Fear FestEvil, next February in San Francisco, according to HenneMusic. The three-day event will take place on the 6th, 7th and 8th of that month and will feature vending, some live music, "Kirk's Crypt" private tours, panels, signings, special guest appearances and more. Among the guests already confirmed are The Walking Dead producer and makeup artist Greg Nicotero, plus legendary Dawn Of The Dead makeup pioneer Tom Savini.

Hammett, a lifelong horror fan, released a coffee table book in 2012 called Too Much Horror Business that featured photos of his extensive collection of monster and horror memorabilia.

He displayed a portion of his collection in the "Kirk's Crypt" exhibition during the 2012 and 2013 Orion Music + More festivals.

Hammett explained a while back how he first got into horror movies, saying, "Five years old, I sprained my arm so I couldn't go out and play. I was sequestered inside because I had to recover from my arm. Turned on the television, the first horror movie I've ever seen was on that night: The Day Of The Triffids. I saw that movie and, from that point on, I was just hooked . . . those are the type of movies I gravitated to."

Hammett and the rest of the members of Metallica have been out promoting the release of their new movie, Metallica: Through The Never, a combination of concert film and fictional narrative shot in 3D and IMAX. The film has grossed just under $3 million since coming out at the end of September.
