Stone Temple Pilots have made a new song called "Black Heart" available for streaming online via iHeartRadio. The song is the second to be issued with new singer Chester Bennington on vocals, following the chart-topping single "Out Of Time." Both tracks are taken from the band's upcoming EP, High Rise, which is due out on October 8th. STP recruited Bennington, who also fronts Linkin Park, as their new vocalist after firing original singer Scott Weiland earlier this year.
Asked how the change in STP's lineup compared to bands like Van Halen, who changed singers from David Lee Roth to Sammy Hagar, here's what guitarist Dean DeLeo told us: "The real beauty of it is that when Dave left and Sam came along, people who love them had the beauty of listening to Dave's new stuff, Eddie and Sammy and Michael and Alex were doing their thing, and the same thing kind of resonates here, you know. Scott's moving forward with making music, we wish him the absolute very best, and, you know, people who really love him can still listen to him and his music that he puts forth."
Bennington told Fuse News about writing with STP, "Naturally, there's gonna be a difference in terms of how I interpret what the band puts together musically. I think that's one of the reasons why we're so eager to get the EP out . . . there's definitely a vibe in that EP that is fresh and it's new but it still feels very STP."
Stone Temple Pilots launched a North American tour earlier this month with Filter that stops on Friday (September 20th) in Columbia, South Carolina.
